I put ChatGPT-4 through my first year at Harvard and asked my professors/TAs to grade essays written by the AI. The results? Mostly As & Bs, and a 3.34 GPA. slowboring.com/p/chatgpt-goes…

In a Slow Boring guest post former Ec10 student @MayaBodnick finds that ChatGPT got an A on the micro essay we required in class. Sadly, we are planning to drop the essay this coming year, in part because ChatGPT has reduced the marginal net benefit that comes from the essay.

GDPR and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency have decimated more small business jobs than any policy change in the last decade. All in an attempt to inflict pain on Facebook by a handful of privacy absolutists in Cupertino & Brussels.

For those pitching how Western democracies can't get anything done and China is a model of state competency, here's a cautionary tale.

NEW: I’m not sure people appreciate quite how bad the Covid situation is in Hong Kong, nor what might be around the corner. First, an astonishing chart. After keeping Covid at bay for two years, Omicron has hit HK and New Zealand, but the outcomes could not be more different.

The Israeli government's choice right now are shameful.

Zelensky on Bennett: "I was struck by a picture I saw of men at the Western Wall wrapped in Ukraine's flag. I've talked to Israel's leaders & honestly, we have good ties, but the test is in times of trouble. I've spoken with Israel's PM & I don't feel he is wrapped in our flag."

1/John Mearsheimer is free to air his views of course, but I, admittedly a nonexpert, feel obliged as a U Chicago faculty member to say this interview is morally offensive and substantively vacuous.

Israel's "delicate balancing act" here is truly depressing in face of a clear moral atrocity. It's under-appreciated in the US just how much Israel has become beholden to Russian and Chinese influence over the last decade. nytimes.com/2022/02/27/wor…

To all the recent chatter about how we should give Putin an off-ramp for him to save face - what would that look like? A piece of Ukraine? Demilitarization?
