We started grade one with decodable books and ended with chapter books and graphic novels! Explicit Instruction and a solid scope and sequence works 🤩 #SoR #bced @UFLiteracy

‼️📢FREE VIRTUAL SCREENING OF THE RIGHT TO READ 📢‼️ In celebration of Juneteenth, join us online to watch The Right to Read for one day only. Monday, June 19, 2023 Virtual Free Register here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

I wonder how many do have a plan and if they do, how is it implemented?

I wonder how many districts in #BCEd have the low bar goal of reading by grade three in their strategic plan, but no plan in place for how to achieve it?

What does a #StructuredLiteracy approach look like for our #FSL students? How can we ensure Ss are not just bilingual but biliterate, too? Thank you @gvta for inviting me to share the reading research & evidence-based classroom strategies with teachers in @sd68bc! @bctf #SOR

@KJWinEducation once posted: “Balanced literacy does not have a monopoly on joy.” There’s not a surefire way to teach students to love reading, but if the purpose of education is to help succeed in society, having a joy of reading is not fundamental. 🧵

Someone recently asked me if I thought LETRS training was racist. I’ll say this. I’m currently serving 8 students using my LETRS training knowledge. Those students are learning to read. How is that ability racist?

📢Let’s go, #BCEd! We don’t want to be the last province to make these necessary changes. Our kids deserve this. #SocialJustice #Equity #RightToRead

New Brunswick is officially making the change to Structured Literacy in September 2023, but the government says teachers have been receiving training this year and many have already started to implement SL in the classroom. #RightToRead cbc.ca/news/canada/ne…
