The first wave of male crabs from last week are now arriving in Kampong. They have made it to the beach, a refreshing dip and well-earned rest before the business of burrow digging begins. The females will be on their way soon. #christmasisland #redcrabmigration

All these crabs are males who will lead the migration to the sea, they will dig burrows in anticipation of the females following shortly. Mating is done in the burrows at completion the males will return to the rainforest the females remaining for spawning. 2/2 #christmasisland

Flying Fish Cove, #ChristmasIsland is an extraordinary home to a diverse array of marine critters. The more time you spend under the water in this wonderous haven the more it reveals. This trevally was quite happy to spend a moment cruising with me out beyond the drop-off.
Some fish are just a thrill and a surprise to witness. This Batfish paid a visit to Flying Fish Cove recently, it was special to spend a little time in its presence. #christmasisland
