If you paste a link to a PDF in iMessage it downloads the document, renders it, creates a preview and then sends: - the preview - the PDF - the link What the actual fuck? It’s like attack surface maximalism

iOS 16.5.1 still bypasses the VPN. New tests show that Apple Push Notification traffic completely ignores the VPN connection. Apple Maps sends many requests outside the VPN, including unencrypted DNS requests. This also happens in the Lockdown Mode. 🎬 youtu.be/tttO_E2STHA

We confirm that iOS 16 does communicate with Apple services outside an active VPN tunnel. Worse, it leaks DNS requests. #Apple services that escape the VPN connection include Health, Maps, Wallet. We used @ProtonVPN and #Wireshark. Details in the video: #CyberSecurity #Privacy

a popular myth is that people who are Very Computer have computers that work. nothing could be further from the truth. the Very Computer are capable of generating much more novel and fascinating ways to make computers not fucking work and exercise this capability wantonly

The point of modern propaganda isn't only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.

I just tried to delete my @Flipboard account, got confirmation on the screen, then realized I'm still logged in. Tried to log out, but I can still login again. How can I login to account that has been deleted? Tried several times. 🤦‍♂️

My colleagues have released a neat tool you can use to monitor — and be creeped out by — your "smart" devices iot-inspector.princeton.edu @kashhill found her coffee pot sending data to Microsoft and her Echo connecting to 17 different domains every few minutes when *not* being used.

Last year, I monitored my smart home to see what it was doing. Now, Princeton researchers have created a tool that will let you do it too: gizmodo.com/this-simple-to…

I think this kind of nihilism is counter-productive. Surely, nothing's perfect, but without a notion of hardware-based trust, we all would still be using MS-DOS "security" model... There is no software-based MMU, kernelmode, etc.

Repeat after me: There is no silver bullet called "trusted hardware". All of physical reality has and always will have side channel attacks! #realworldcrypto
