École Edward Schreyer School students are just as bright and inquisitive as I remember from teaching there years ago! 📚 Happy to welcome EESS 7th graders from Beausejour on Thursday to the Legislature!! Thanks to Mrs Solilak and Jill Kaatz for bringing the students 😊
My grade 7s used @CanvaEdu Magic Studio to create alternative Book Covers to Gratz’s “Refugee.” They used AI text to image to visualize what their character would look like. Good skill practicing describing their character to get the most accurate & realistic image!
We were honoured to have Her Honour, Anita Neville, the Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba accept our invitation to read to our Grade 7s for I Love to Read month!
Experimenting with @canva Magic Studio with my students creating AI generated images. I’m brainstorming ways I could create a whole lesson & assignment on this! They loved being creative on this!
The Grade 7s had fun painting rocks & leaving messages on them to deliver in different places around town 😀
I had no idea who Bishop Grandin was/why the street was named after them. It’s time to rename it!
Winnipeg has a boulevard named after this man: Bishop Grandin Boulevard. @Mayor_Bowman we need to rename this street. Nobody, not Grandin nor Macdonald or anybody else, should be honoured or immortalized if they played a role in this system of genocide. #TRC
Shopping @sobeys on a sensory- friendly evening, lights dimmed & noise reduced. As somebody who is high energy, I love the calming effect. PLUS, having taught a few kids with autism spectrum disorder over the years, I can understand what a huge impact this would be. Thank you! 👏🏼
Apparently today is #TeachersDay so shoutout to my colleagues! I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my work fam. In this profession we need a listening ear, somebody to bounce ideas off and lots of encouragement to keep going & trying. Kudos to all the teachers👏🏼
Beausejour has access to beautiful trails & park in their community. We took the Ss on a nature/photo challenge yesterday. Need to get the kids outside as much as possible! I’m wanted to get as much PD as possible on outdoor classrooms this year ☀️
Finished reading @AlanGratz Allies & I’m ashamed to admit I had never heard of “If Day” in Winnipeg, a full on simulation of a Nazi invasion on Feb 19, 1942. This makes a strong argument for the importance of using simulation in social studies learning!
Annual tradition of making “good bye” cards for my Grade 7s... this year feels extra weird. Difficult to fit in everything I want to say, while mentioning the impact of COVID-19 on our school year. These kids will definitely remember Grade 7 the rest of their life!
Feeling this 💯
Had a teacher tell me today, “It’s not the hard work or long days that’s wearing on me. It’s the constant feeling that I’m not doing enough.” That hit me hard.
Throwback to last month, when we had students in our building... These beautiful 1-page book reports will never be displayed for people to enjoy ... so I’m sharing here! The students summarized, shared their favourite quotes & made connections
Anyone else’s screen time increase by 1000%?! I’ve been trying to train my brain to pick up a 📖 instead of my 📱 here are some YA books from my classroom library that have been on my TBR list ... enjoying the time to slow down, read & get lost in these incredible stories
Wondering what other teachers are using @MicrosoftTeams to make video conferences? I can call my 25 students, but it only allows to video display 4 users. I want to see as many of their faces as possible! Anyone w experience?
A4- Shout out to my colleague @DavidPuff6 for introducing & encouraging me to use @Flipgrid during this remote learning period. PLUS, because I’ve had such a good experience w it, I’m definitely going to continue using it once we’re back in the classroom! #FlipgridForAll
A1- My tip for getting started w @Flipgrid is to provide step-by-step visual instructions for Ss & parents. I screen-shot each step & marked up, then emailed away. Also, to set the student ID to something they’ll remember! #FlipgridForAll
Had my first virtual meeting with my students on @MicrosoftTeams today! I figured scheduling it at 10 am majority of Ss would be awake, but I still had messages, “Ms. Vitt I woke up for this” 😂 hopefully it was worth it! I know it was for me... made my heart happy 😊
Students, we miss you! @mbteachers @SunriseTeachers @AthleticsBarons #covid19Canada
Last week at school was eerie with such few kids. I was brainstorming what I could do to uplift Ss spirits & of course driving down the highway seeing the prairies/sunrise inspired me! In times of crisis, turn to art. We created a beautiful 🌾 field mural from sunrise to sunset
