I wonder if 50 years from now we're going to look back at how we've redesigned our world around computers with the same regret that people look back at how we redesigned cities around cars. 🤔

"The Road to Serfdom" summarized in a tweet:

The only two ways to coordinate human societies at scale are free markets and physical power. Any ideology rejecting free markets is just advocating for power. Socialism, communism, and fascism all converge to the same endpoint - rule by the biggest thug.

We live among people who overwhelmingly side with evil when it counts the most. Don't try to outvote, educate, confront or argue with them. Instead, find ways to 1) make them less relevant in the world at large; 2) make those who stand up & speak out against evil, more relevant.

Donald Appleyard's famous 1969 analysis of how urban traffic destroys communities. Three nearly identical streets in San Francisco, but with light, medium and heavy traffic. The less traffic the more interactions, the more friendships, the more meeting points. Cars kills cities.

I don't revel in being a contrarian, I just enjoy being right about stuff. The best strategy to be right about stuff, as I found, is to be a contrarian. 👋

Whenever engineers and geeks start thinking about how to "improve society somewhat", they are preconditioned to chase after the worst ways to do it, and outright dismiss all the right ways to do it, because the right ways look like the opposite of engineering and geekery to them.

The reality of politics is that feelings don't care about your facts. But when it comes to technology the opposite is true. You can't argue with a Bitcoin. If you deplore a society that has no value for truth, dedicate your resources to technologies that make politics obsolete

A sign of #GoodUrbanism is a multitude of small buildings. A thousand homes can give opportunity to a thousand architects and a thousand chances to interact with and form bonds to a place. A single large building for a thousand people destroys a thousand opportunities.

Is someone working on a scalable way to issue "non-vaccination certificates", to prove I didn't take it? AFAIK, the best shorthand I have now is my tweets from 2021, arguably they prove it, and may be good enough for many scenarios, but I feel like as a society we can do better.

Absolute truth.

It’s wild the entire world went through Covid since the last election and how that era was handled hasn’t been mentioned once throughout any of these debates. Like it didn’t even happen.

Elon, here’s a counterfactual I’ve found helpful: if you created a 1 meter thick Dyson sphere around the entire sun at a mere 5 meter standoff, the amount of power you get would be lower than if you used the same amount of metal to make fission reactors. That’s right: in the…

Once you understand Kardashev Scale, it becomes utterly obvious that essentially all energy generation will be solar. Also, just do the math on solar on Earth and you soon figure out that a relatively small corner of Texas or New Mexico can easily serve all US electricity.

Fauci actively promoted Remdesivir (hospital nickname run, death is near), and hospitals were paid to use it. But it was neither safe nor effective. Sound familiar?

BREAKING: Gilead Sciences has announced a recall of its antiviral drug remdesivir. Remdesivir had a 53% mortality rate in clinical trials done in Africa. This is the same medication they forced on us while preventing us from using hydroxychloroquine & ivermectin!
