This account/movement was created by a queer disabled woman of color. The idea was and still is to challenge today’s accessibility standards. However, the lens has broadened to include disability justice and in particular - intersectionality. Opinions are all my own.

When the clock strikes midnight, it will be #DisabilityPrideMonth. There will be no flashy merchandise. Companies won’t be changing their logos. Celebrities won’t be posting on social media about it. And the disabled community still won’t have equity or equality. -…

For @inthesetimesmag I wrote about disabled voting. I shared about my wife’s grandmother, a Black woman who gained her right to vote on her 28th birthday - the day the VRA became law. June 2020 was the first election since where she wasn’t allowed to vote. inthesetimes.com/article/voting…

“Disaster preparedness” rarely, if ever, includes the disabled and chronically ill community. They are too often left behind.

There’s a sad irony in the fact that many in disabled and chronically ill community have been saying that the pandemic isn’t over and asking people to continue to mask and no one listened. Now that COVID is “surging again,” people are being urged to mask again.

“COVID is surging again.” COVID has never gone away. Society and government just chose to ignore it. The disabled and chronically ill community warned that doing that would lead to more surges.

How the disabled community can work towards collective liberation: Bridge the gap between social justice and Disability Justice. Stop putting leaders in the community on pedestals. Amplify multi-marginalized voices.

Disabled Natives: I'm going to be presenting on the ADA for a Native org and I'd like to share a few stories from other Disabled Natives about their experiences of being Disabled in NDN Country, barriers that exist because as sovereign nations the ADA does not always apply, etc.

Mmmhmmm ok…

There’s a lot of talk about being “in community with others” from the leaders of marginalized communities, but very little actual inclusion of the disabled community. ‌ ‌

Just a note. This account is on the other app. Until that one is accessible, things will be cross-posted. It’s @ UpgradeAccessibility there.

Something that needs to be repeated (yet again) on International Non-Binary People’s Day: Non-binary disabled/chronically ill people exist. They have a right to have their whole identities respected and honored. They also should be a part of important conversations.

“Liberty and justice for all.” Unless you’re disabled and want the liberty to marry a partner. Unless you’re disabled and want the liberty to have more than $2000 in assets. Unless you’re disabled and seek justice under the protection of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
