Something that most people don’t wanna hear is that most garments should probably cost $200+ if labor isn’t being exploited 😅

Very excited to see my donation displayed!

New to our digital collection, this shaping bodysuit, from French brand Chantelle, was designed to provide all-over support and help create the naturally slender figure that was fashionable in the 1960s. underpinningsmuseum.com/museum-collect…

My first ever pair of stays, made of a golden duchesse satin and embellished with a flourish of lace appliqué and freshwater pearls. Making these was a steep learning curve, and I'm in no hurry to bind tabs again any time soon.

I heard someone (who dresses very differently from me) spell out "basics should be in your specific style; "basic" is a function and not a specific item. maybe your basic t-shirt is a graphic tee" and I was immediately freed from ever coveting the influencer white tee ever again

we spent so much time talking about the “laundry and taxes” line from everything everywhere all at once last year that i think we skipped over the subtle beauty & brilliance of this beat that quite literally changed my entire life & worldview so i’m trying to make up for that rn

Insane technicality in the last couple of looks from Galliano’s last Margiela show. The dart values of the dresses were evenly tucked into the stripes to manipulate the volumes — a level of perfectionism only allowed within haute couture in this day and age.

As much as I think it's a good thing to have so many social media creators doing sewing tutorials, I despise when it's framed as 'clothing brands are scamming you!!! Make your own for $10 and it will automatically be better quality!!!'

Exactly this. Doubly so when publishers are pushing towards LLM-created content and when platforms are /already/ biased towards rewarding race-to-the-bottom, quck-turnaround, low-effort content sludge.

The A+ hbomberguy video has me revisiting a key question about the future of online media — if the value for plagiarized, derivative video content has risen/rises above the value of the original reporting, what will happen when there's not enough original reporting to plagiarize

so excited for this!

Since Edward Sexton's death last week, I've been reflecting a lot on his work. I doubt another tailor will leave as strong and distinct an impression on men's tailoring in my lifetime. For those unaware of him, I thought I'd share a bit about his story. 🧵
