In my @ucdavis biochem class students were asked in MT2 to name a peptide. The correct answer was GARYMAY. Not all students got it right, so I invited @Chancellor_May to come visit. He had more biochem questions for them. @UCDavis_Egghead @UCDavisDateline youtu.be/u79yNfgmRlY

It was fantastic having @genentech's Senior Engineer Alan Lancaster speaking to my @ucdavisbiology' biochem class today. @ucdavis students now know that what we have been learning in class is critical to the pharmaceutical industry in producing life-saving drugs.

John Harada, a professor emeritus in the Department of Plant Biology, says that "seeds feed the planet." According to Harada, researchers estimate that 75 percent of the calories consumed by humans come from seeds. #Study #Seeds

I'm thrilled to share *the first paper from my lab* in @eLife: doi.org/10.7554/eLife.… Wonderful collaboration with @ucd_physiology's @vyy_sf & starring Flavia Franco (now back to @ESALQMidias), Pingxi Xu & Brandon Harris. @ucdavis's synergy between @ucdavisbiology & @UCDavisMed

Students, staff, and faculty have worked together to create the Joseph and Emma Lin Biological Orchard and Gardens, a living museum highlighting the biodiversity on campus. Today, the garden is a perfect area for students to study in a peaceful area. #Garden #Orchard #Study

Under the right living arrangement, disease-resistant corals can help “rescue” corals that are more vulnerable to disease, according to a new study from the Department of Evolution and Ecology. #MarineBiology #CoralReef #Diversity #Ocean @DrAnyaBrown bit.ly/3GTTCq8

Evolution, ecology and biodiversity (EEB) majors get lots of different hands-on learning experiences in the college. Here, an EEB major bands and weighs young tree swallows as part of a study to preserve the birds that frequently visit the creek. #Wildlife #Birds

There is great biodiversity on campus. Here, a student gets hands-on experience with a carp as part of a research project investigating how the fish affect water quality. #Water #Fish #ExperentialLearning

Did you know that plant biologists research ways that plants resist pests and disease? This can help lead to new varieties of crop plants, such as bean plants, that are less affected by common pathogens. #Beanplants #Greenhouse #Plants
