Autism charities have made a joint call for urgent action to end the avoidable and devastating crisis affecting tens of thousands of people waiting for a diagnosis. 1/4
The failure to meet NHS Long Term Plan commitments isn’t the only area of concern for #autistic people highlighted in today’s @CareQualityComm #StateOfCare report. Delays in diagnosis, local authority and mental health care failures, lower life expectancy, inadequate staff…
A thread of pure joy
This is my son Ethan. Ethan is 14 and he has autism. Today his mum and sister had an appointment at Addenbrookes Hospital so it fell upon me to take Ethan out for the day. If you're interested this is a thread about how we got on. Word of warning, there aren't any pictures. 1/13

The events of last night's @BBCPanorama were awful but are sadly no longer shocking because they are simply the latest in a long line of similar scandalous events. Autistic young people should be able to go to a school where they can be safe, valued and happy. This is a central…

A fantastic piece of work which crucially progresses one of the few pieces of autism-specific support and intervention around suicide. Well done to all the team and @Sarah_NottsUni

Today, following the inquest of Caitlyn Scott-Lee we joined @Autism @PAPYRUS_Charity @tellmi_helps @samaritans & @YoungMindsUK to write an open letter to @Gov to highlight the increased risk of suicide that autistic people face and call for urgent action: bit.ly/44pqy3J
Proud to be able to contribute to this crucial cause. 🧡💙
The action seen so far to prevent the deaths by suicide of autistic people is simply not good enough. We at @theACEcharity are committed to making change happen and have been joined by partners and friends in telling the Government what autistic people need.

Reform of welfare is impossible unless understanding of autism is at its heart. More than 8 in 10 autistic people experience mental health problems. Support must be prioritised instead of already-vulnerable people pressured more by a system which has already failed to help them…
A real privilege to have taken up this opportunity. @theACEcharity has big plans to prevent the avoidable deaths, tackle stigma and break down the barriers to autistic people leading the best lives they can.

Massive thanks to Anoushka for updating her @ProBonoEcon analysis of the wasted cost of Tribunals in light of yesterday's stats. It's up to £87 million: or closer to a whopping £100 million when you take into account withdrawn cases.
An important campaign from the @Autism_Alliance Imagine a world where all autistic people can get the support they need to live good lives. It’s not impossible and Government needs to take radical steps to make social care more available
Autistic adults are at breaking point, denied the social care they need because of long term Government underfunding. The @Autism_Alliance is campaigning for change – for autistic adults, and for everyone. Support the call: buff.ly/3MYTesw #BreakingPointCampaign

Why do we still have to see constant headlines like this?
TW: The image below references abuse of autistic people and may cause distress. Behind every one of these headlines is an autistic person or someone with a learning disability who was failed by the system, locked up somewhere that couldn’t help them. (1/2)
Do you get outraged when you see stories about autistic people being locked up in hospitals for years? Do you ask yourself 'how can this happen, how is this legal'? This👇is how it happens, and why it's currently legal - and what you can do to help change this
Last year, Govt published its draft Mental Health Bill. It included vital changes to the Mental Health Act, including changing the definition of “mental disorder,” so autistic people can’t be detained under s.3 without having a mental health condition. (🧵) 1/4
