My dad went to boarding school. I didn't know going into an interview with Sec. Haaland yesterday was going to result in me crying, but it did because, for the first time in history, a sitting U.S. president is set to apologize to Indigenous communities. azmirror.com/2024/10/24/we-…

Rural America is more than white, conservative, or Republican. It also consists of Black folks who have power. Black rural voters have consistently voted for the Democratic Party at rates of 90% or more. Why is their influence often invisible? NEW: capitalbnews.org/rural-black-vo…

A life update: I’m back at @WSJ as a news associate, part of a new 2-year program. I’m very grateful for my past year @BostonGlobe on the homepage/audience team. But I’m excited for what’s next. First up: A 6-month reporting stint at the Journal’s Chicago bureau!

Something I keep hearing is journalists of color who have been laid off, feeling undervalued, etc, wanting to leave being told “but journalism needs you.” The reality is newsrooms don’t want to confront the systemic, institutional + structural problems that cause us to leave.

Hi friends. I’m leaving journalism. And in the few days since I’ve began my transition in my new role it’s become very clear to me how cruelly journalism treated me. For starters, I’ve always been treated like a newbie. I was never enough. Never experienced or educated enough.
