It’s done. Congratulations to the ‘000s of energy workers who kept the country going for all those years and will keep it going into the future - from tomorrow for ever more - without coal.

This is the moment Ratcliffe power station came off the electricity system for the final time, marking the end of 142 years of coal generating electricity in Great Britain!

New suggested name from a passenger today - Power Tower - is that ok? I think it’s got a very nice ring to it. @EngineerLondon and @ELPinchbeck

Thoughts on the end of coal generation. I went here as a 16 year old lad for work ex in EC&I. I LOVED it 💙 The size, scale, smells, HEAT 🥵, sweat, dust, noise is quite indescribable. Unless you been in the turbine hall, it’s impossible to comprehend the enormity 😳 [1/10]

Not doing net zero does not mean you avoid costs. It means you spend more money on grappling with the impacts, whilst trying to belatedly minimise the further impacts at a greater cost than it would’ve been if you’d done it all earlier. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

Behold the power of a 15GVA BEA 300 REP committee disconnector. This outdoor disconnector was installed in 1966. This morning it de-energised a very short cable, you see it here interrupting charging current 💪🏻 It’s a truly beautiful design doing beautiful work 😍⚡️
