Reflecting my first week of rehearsal, I am filled with joy, nerve jitters, openness, learning and having fun.  I am learning the ropes, trying to set myself free and so far, it has been. I have no words yet. I’m excited to play the role of Eurydice. #deafwest  #blackdeaftalent

I know that @MoniqueZen & @VikeeMe has been teaching classes for years offering it to #DeafTalent. Give them a chance!

@DeafSpotlight & @DeafWest has been doing workshops. Follow them. Michelle Banks (@Kuliza115 ) started classes in DC. In LA, go to @ucbtla/@ucbtny or @Groundlings for improv— with interpreters. UCB covers interpreters and there are diversity scholarships, easy for deaf. (more)

FOR DEAF ACTORS! There's a few possibilities for classes! Jade Bryan (@DeafShowRunner) has been teaching classes, and Josh and I (@thedeafgang) are teaching improv classes (here in LA this month) and then we’re going to SF under ASL Love in Feb as well. (more)

This acting/#deaftalent thread goes for every d/Deaf actor out there-- including those who have made it to the big screen, TV, Broadway, etc. It will make a LARGE difference for you, trust me! 🤟🤟🤟🤟 #formulaforsuccess

ACTING CLASS TIP FOR #DEAFTALENT: Be open minded to your teacher. Try to see how your teacher's methods can translate into your culture and visual access. And don't be afraid to self-advocate and communicate. #faceyourfears

5) Classes are a fantastic opportunity to understand everyone's processes and to discover yours. Being scared or vulnerable is part of the acting game. So if you're uncomfortable, it's a good thing. #faceyourfears

4) Film sets or theatre productions do not qualify as training. They only add to the resume, but they do not help you learn as much as you think they would. Especially in hearing productions.

3) No matter what you think, you will always need acting coach support or classes. The director will not have enough time to focus on you.

The Deaf Gang Reposted

2) Having an acting coach who understands your culture and language would be largely beneficial. EVEN if you think you might be good enough.

The Deaf Gang Reposted

Because of many reasons: 1) We need to represent ourselves better by having professional acting methods rather than depending on the director to coach us.

ALL d/Deaf actors! (Yes, ALL) You should always be taking classes-- ALWAYS. Especially if there's one in your own culture and language. #DeafTalent #POCDeafTalent #LatinxDeafTalent #AsianDeafTalent #BlackDeafTalent #QueerDeafTalent #DeafWomenTalent #DeafDisabledTalent
