Excellent piece in The Economist today on a subject I’ve been banging on about a while!

Wage compression! As the minimum wage continues to increase while productivity stays flat we see the bunching up of pay distribution in the lower half of earnings meaning that those in the middle feel closer to the bottom, not the top. Hugely messes up labour market incentives.

Seriously, this is something else. It will soon be possible to be a graduate on minimum wage in the UK and face a 37% marginal tax rate (20% income tax, 8% NI, plus 9% uni fees repayment). Throw in auto-enrolment at 5% and 6% loan repay for postgrads and it's 48%

Just chatting to the owner of a cafe in Plymouth about the pressure the rise in employer NI contributions will put on his business. He said some venues are already laying people off. Unemployment was already rising - seems like a big miscalculation from ‘go for growth’ Reeves.

do you ever come across someone and just know that they buy pasta from TK maxx

I thank God everyday for Islam, more and more I realize people believe in absolutely nothing beyond their own desires & have no sense of consequence, scary

I completely understand Martha Stewart. When men cheat, they destroy homes, families, legacies and traumatize generations. When women cheat, its just a little bit of play.

if I’m already running late what difference does stopping to pick up a blank street on the way make ??
