Belated, but 1st paper of my PhD is published! “Social environment shapes female settlement decisions in a solitary carnivore.” We found the social landscape was influential in where female brown bears settled home ranges following independence. 1/n doi.org/10.1093/beheco…
Are you movement ecology curious? If so, check out this incredible resource that the good folks at AniMove have made publicly available. I was privileged to attend the 2022 AniMove and learned so much from the instructors and other attendees. I hope you will, as well.
Great news! As part of the #Animove #elearning programme, you are now able to stream 2022 #Animalmovement & #remotesensing course lectures #opensource Follow the link: streaming.uni-konstanz.de/talks-und-even… Thanks @unikn_streaming @UniKonstanz for making this possible.

Because I haven't specifically mentioned it before, I'm on the fediverse: @taoofcoffee@ecoevo.social I hope to find many of you there!
TIL that if I buy canned coconut milk produced in Thailand, there's a high chance that it was sourced from coconuts that captive macaques were forced to pick. I read the report from PETA and it's really depraved stuff. cbsnews.com/news/hellofres…
In Idaho, we mostly hated Utah drivers, but California drivers always invoked ire. We assumed drivers w/southern plates could not drive on snow. We reserved special mockery for certain in-state plates based on the county they were from *cough* 1J *cough* themorningnews.org/article/ih8yrs…
Just had a happy realization that it's the Oslo comicon weekend, AKA the best people watching weekend of the year. Love grocery shopping with all the cosplayers and watching them stream past our apartment on the way to the spectrum. 🤩
Out and about watching Norwegian country.
'The Other Side has recruited unhoused people...to help develop the village—because they know better what unhoused people need. "If you're not including them in the process, you're not going to create a real solution"' In SLC? Wow. npr.org/2022/11/06/113…
“'Our message to people abroad is: we are here and we are going to resist,' said Vlaschenko. 'We want to continue our scientific and conservation activities.'” This is quite an admirable pursuit. 🦇 - Amid War, Bat Rescue Continues in Ukraine undark.org/2022/10/31/ami…
Recently I learned about a man who has trained 1,000+ people to block wind and solar projects. I read through all his training materials, presentations, and seminars. Here's what I learned about him and how his students plan to "win the war on clean energy." 🧵
Waking up to 12° C around Oslo in November feels so wrong. It's supposed to be getting cold now! :/
The fact internet archive exists is a miracle. The fact it has to beg for funding every year to keep itself afloat is a tragedy. Throw money to keep things alive and hope we make it another generation. archive.org/donate
I use it myself. 🤷♀️
It was really sad to read about the loss of endemic birds on Guam and even sadder to read about what climate change is affecting there. Worse still is what the US military has done and continues to do to Guam and its surrounding waters.
Thankful to @MsKateLyons and the team the @guardian for allowing me space to talk climate change, invasive species, and military expansion, and how the three have formed a kind of unholy trinity in #Guam. theguardian.com/world/2022/nov…
