The human capacity to abstract discrete categories over continuous phenomenon constitutes perhaps our greatest blessing and curse. It at once blesses us with the combinatoric potential we call creativity, and curses us to forever renegotiate the boundaries of the discrete.

Problem with separating work stages: inability to reliably complete a stage before jumping to another. Plan goes to hell. Solution: formulate guaranteed results / don't micromanage the unpredictable.

To prepare well is to make your actual cognitive frame match the cognitive frame necessary for task completion.

When referring to someone's mental model, it's extremely valuable to know how their and your model MISMATCH

1. Underestimate the complexity of a problem. 2. Commit to this misjudgment. 3. Suffer or delegate responsibility along with the suffering.

Thinking about managing as administrating software: One of the biggest struggles is to get it all to run at all.

For every task, you either take responsiblilty (make decisions) or execute instructions. If you're doing both, you will probably regret it.
