what is so realistic about sex and the city is her friends never read her little articles

A new study involving jazz guitarists has help to clarify what exactly is needed to get into a flow state: it’s a combination of expertise and release of conscious control. For writers, it simply translates to: keep writing scientificamerican.com/article/brain-…

Nothing quite as startling as being called “Ma’am” at the checkout. (“I look like a Miss, right? Right??” My internal voice begs for confirmation.)

for @esquire, I wrote 3,000 words on why it feels harder these days to make a debut novel truly "break out." feat. Jack Kerouac, "the algorithm," literary it girls, and overworked publicists... esquire.com/entertainment/…

Congrats to the team! Honoured to have contributed

As someone who worked in ecomm merchandising for 10yrs, I need to acknowledge how beautifully @modaoperandi is merchandised

Can’t believe I actually thought I’d win something from the Pattie Boyd auction with my baby bids 😭

The handwritten letters. I can’t 🥹

Hi All, I can announce that Christies have arranged an auction for me called 'The Pattie Boyd Collection' The auction starts next month, 8 Mar, but you can view the 111 lots via Christies' site now: onlineonly.christies.com/.../pat.../ove…... Maybe there's something in there for you?!

Fantastic piece and a must read.

Hi everyone. I’m Connor Garel, the Justice Fund writer in residence @thewalrus I spent nearly seven months investigating the extent to which Canadian museums are implicated in the theft of African art. Here’s what I learned:

#PriscillaMovie was one of my fave films this year. Adored everything about it. The soundtrack, the cinematography, the period details & (without saying) the acting (Jacob! Cailee!). Sofia Coppola has created another beautiful film ✨ (go see it!)

Sam Esmail is a genius when it comes to speculative storytelling. I recently started re-watching Mr Robot (it’s still as relevant & impressive as ever), so when I saw his new film, Leave the World Behind, come out it was an immediate watch for me. Feels frighteningly accurate

Can I just say how much I’m loving all of the song choices @JohnMayer @SIRIUSXM as I’m listening to Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere.” It’s getting me through my writing day. ✨✨✨

“Glossy should not be read as a cautionary tale. It should be an example of what’s possible when women aren’t afraid to be ambitious.”

I finally wrote down my thoughts about Glossy, the book about Glossier (where I used to run comms). I have some pretty strong feelings about how Emily Weiss is portrayed, and even stronger ones about what the lessons are (and aren’t) for women founders. link.medium.com/B31qG8uqnEb

Never imagined that stumbling into @rarebirdsbooks, a bookstore owned by a fellow Canadian, would result in me writing about the city. Highly recommend putting Edinburgh on your must-visit list, esp if you’re a bibliophile. 📚 tinyurl.com/3a6rs23e

Anyone move to Substack from another email provider and happy you did it? I’m thinking of switching, but not sure if it’s worth the hassle
