In Afrikaans, it's called the Satan's bush 😈 Meet the silver-leaf nightshade (Solanum elaeagnifolium) ! 🧛‍♂️ This invasive weed is poisonous, can regenerate itself from fragments and is unpalatable for most animals 😱 Check it online 👉 shorturl.at/4xCbN

I decided to restart my ecological stats blog posts. Check out this new one on why you should probably stop using the number of survey days as a covariate in occupancy models. Check it out! masonfidino.com/camera_days/

Nice to see my paper out in Ornithological Applications! We found that trailing-edge species are moving uphill in response to climate change, but they seem to be still hanging on. Not exactly cheery news, but some cool science went into this: academic.oup.com/condor/advance…

Come do a PhD with me on #statistics for a fun #TropicalEcology system (featuring ants!!!). Data collection and systems expertise form @LukeLPowell and team. Modelling will be done in the amazing @mcmc_stan findaphd.com/phds/project/d…

Excellent from Brian McGill: is ecology (and by extension, other disciplines, even digital humanities!) ready for really big code projects, and how both authors and readers can presume the code works? dynamicecology.wordpress.com/2024/10/14/is-…

📢 PSA: Tired of #betareg in #rstats complaining when you have 0 and/or 1 in your response variable? 🎉 Good news: betareg can now capture this at the expense of a single extra parameter! 📄 New arXiv working paper with @IKosmidis_ zeileis.org/news/xbx/

Hey, that's me, doing the publishing thing. 🥳😎 If you like SDM's, climate data, invasive species predictions, R, or MaxEnt, this may be of interest to you. This was a pre-covid idea - glad to finally see it published. #Ecology #MaxEnt #SDM #R

The CBC has a new manuscript in Ecological Modelling! Clarke van Steenderen and Guy Sutton showed how MaxEnt models can vary in their output depending on the combination of climate variables used as predictors. sciencedirect.com/.../pii/S03043… Comic drawn by Clarke.
