A 🧵on the sculpture from the Pictish Bishopric at Rosemarkie. Firstly this sublime equal armed cross, with the carved depressions on the arms and centre once holding jewelled insets. This is likely to have been mounted on a screen behind the altar, known as a reredos. Fancy!

Creating a buzz on #WorldBeeDay? Named from the Scots word for a recess in a wall, these bee boles at Tolquhon Castle in Aberdeenshire were used before the development of hives to provide shelter to the skep, where bees lived and worked. Visit Tolquhon: ow.ly/IYWK50OmIAO

Early medieval souterrain ware - Ireland’s domestic cooking pottery, AD 500-1000 - got very (very) faint praise (he was being nice) at the UCD pottery workshops by @Pottedhistory But we still like it at #UCD @EArchaeol - somebody has to? 😳

#OnThisDay (or #AroundThisDay!) in AD 563, St Columba and 12 companions are said to have arrived at the island of Iona, having travelled from Ireland. The monastery they founded remains an important and beautiful place of pilgrimage. Visit Iona Abbey: ow.ly/Mvm050u6Fj4

Any tips on requesting research access to museum collections? 🏺 Hoping to visit some museums (particularly smaller/more local ones) in Scotland and Northern Ireland this summer, but I have no idea where to start- especially when there is no application on their website!
