The Pension War Room™️ "has some thoughts" edition. @NateHornerAB lied to us about what is going on here. But, first things first: the Right Honourable here **might** be doing this pro-bono because of the ethics screen he has failed. #AbLeg

I am taking on the role of Board Chair of the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), and doing so on a pro-bono basis, because I believe it is a meaningful act of public service to my adopted home province of the last 46 years. I also feel uniquely positioned to help…

7.5% increase for car insurance each year for 2 years. Alberta drivers will have the highest insurances cost in Canada - by far. Thanks, Danielle Smith. Thanks, UCP. #ableg

Stephen Harper’s appointment today as chair of AIMCo board ends pension management company’s ‘arm’s length’ status. albertapolitics.ca/2024/11/stephe… #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli @aimcoinvests

What’s old is new again, it would seem, in terms of scapegoats.

While we tend to think of the K*K*K as something that only existed in the United States, there was a period of time in the 1920s when the group was very large, and politically powerful, in Western Canada. Let's learn more about this dark time. 🧵1/12

More evidence that the UCP is only in this for their rich friends…not for me, not for you.

I’m home from work and still fuming. Here’s the clip from today’s news conference where @AdrianaLaGrange says the real problem with wait times in #abhealth is that the federal government won’t let rich people pay to jump the queue. #abpoli #yyc #yeg

She never has listened, and she never will. Certainly won’t do anything that is actually helpful, either.

3 years have passed since the UCP held a referendum on removing the equalization from the Constitution. The window to make a formal constitutional amendment has closed. The UCP played Albertans. #ableg theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

Really gross stuff. Jagmeet Singh was born in Canada. This is just flagrant, unapologetic racism.

On this day in 1885, Metis leader Louis Riel was put to death in Regina. Riel led his people in two resistance movements to protect their culture and defend Metis rights. Let's learn more (a condensed version) about The Father of Manitoba. 🧵1/20

This, I can confirm is true. This wasn't last week's plan. It was last year's plan. Harper failed the ethics screen once. Then the ethics commissioner was replaced. Then he failed again. Seizing control of @aimcoinvests was always the plan.

One tidbit, among many, is that Stephen Harper was approached over a year ago to Chair AIMco. His file was given to the Ethics Commissioner to review given Harper's business ties and potential conflicts of interest.

The recent AIMCo shake-up represents, in practice, the takeover of $160 billion of assets by Smith’s cabinet. What could go wrong? Parkland research fellow Bob Ascah discusses the politicization of pensions threatening the retirement security of Albertans. calgaryherald.com/opinion/column…

Buckle up, Alberta. You don't get to blame Trudeau for what's coming.

This shows just how desperate the UCP is to mercilessly break the Alberta public service & especially our world-class public education system. Wage suppression is just one front in their scorched-earth war against teachers & students. Image from @ParklandInst conf this weekend.

More on the political machinations that led to the mass firing at AIMco last week by @CarrieTait theglobeandmail.com/business/artic… This raises more questions about govt interference in a supposed arms-length agency managing $160 billion of Albertans money.

Blast from the past: her is the liar @TravisToewsAB in a 2019 Facebook post telling us that the GOA would not interfere AIMCO investment decisions. Pro tip: firing the exec and Board is interfering.
