I had so much hope. However, I guess that was unjustified. If the RCGP can do it. So can the RCP. You have had more than ample time to release a document since the AGM, your college is turning into a joke. Pensions before patient safety strikes again I suppose.

This document won't set out a detailed scope of practice, and was never intended to. I hope what it will do is to set out clear guidance for supervision and also clarify interactions with resident doctors.

It is really annoying me because as a patient I still don't know what sort of care I am not supposed to be offered by a PA in hospital. I have no idea how I am supposed to stop them injuring me.

Streeting said he has more to say in the coming weeks on PAs. There is apparently a review into the LTWFP. What’s happening in a few weeks? The beginning of registration with the GMC. Note that it is NOT the beginning of regulation. This would be a prime opportunity for…

They really are lying to you You don’t even have to take our word for it, they’ve written it down, black and white PAs “must be the first point of contact for patients with undifferentiated problems” - NHSE contract. PAs have maximum value as “medical role substitutes” - GMC

There is overwhelming evidence that the policies & funding of NHS England & GMC are set on replacing Doctors with PAs When stating PAs have been integral to the NHS for 20years they are lying 2015 there were just 15 PAs in General Practice only 109 in hospitals @CommonsHealth

The @gmcuk is becoming increasingly isolated in pushing what many doctors and now Royal Colleges are expressing safety concerns about As scrutiny and questions mount the only thing becoming clear is their government agenda They are essentially now a Deregulator

🚨 ITS 👏 A 👏 COUP 👏 The GMC initially said that RCs were responsible for setting scope, because they didn’t have the expertise - safe in the knowledge that RCs were also bought and sold by DHSC. But then something remarkable happened. Doctors started fighting back. 1/n

The GMC has gone rogue. For hundreds of years the Royal Colleges have officially represented the medical profession. The GMC thinks it can ignore their expertise regarding SAFETY? Have no doubt: this is Department of Health infiltration. The GMC is unfit to regulate us.

Has @sofialind_Pulse got this right? That @gmcuk proposes to have no regard for other bodies’ (eg Royal Colleges) published scope of practice for Associates in FtP proceedings?

ND_MedStudent 💙 Reposted

Sounds like GMC is doubling down on local scope… Against the patient safety concerns of thousands of doctors

GMC will only consider ‘individual’ PA practice scopes in FtP proceedings buff.ly/3CsjUja #physicianassociates #MAPs #regulation #GMC

An ascitic drain procedure is in the red zone of BMA's Scope of Practice for PAs, ie. must not be performed by PAs. If that SoP had been in place when Mrs Pollitt was hospitalised, and it had been followed by the Trust, she might have lived 😟 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

There is a culture of entitlement embedded within PAs, fuelled by supervisors who want an easy life This cavalier attitude towards safety is what has led to patient deaths

🚨 NEW: Physician associates at @RoyalFreeNHS illegally requested over 1,000 scans involving ionising radiation over 3 years A loophole in the hospital's electronic system (Cerner) allowed PAs to request the tests. Senior doctors knew this was happening but did not act 👇

Hi @wesstreeting, PAs will use @gmcuk registration to further blur the lines between doctors and non-doctors. Do you think a patient will be able to tell that a ‘GMC registered medical professional’ is NOT a doctor, when staff can’t? PAs should be regulated by HCPC not GMC.

'I think there are legitimate concerns about the extent of doctor substitution' Health Secretary Wes Streeting told #BBCBreakfast he'll 'take stock' before allowing more physician associates to be employed in the NHS in England bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

ND_MedStudent 💙 Reposted

@wesstreeting you need to question Charlie Massey, CEO @gmcuk re his obscene acceleration of PAs & AAs onto the GMC register. This can only cause confusion for parents. This cohort haven't studied medicine & have zero equivalence to Doctors. This move is politically driven.

ND_MedStudent 💙 Reposted

@wesstreeting how many patients have to die ? Have you called Susan’s husband Roy and explained to him how you will stop this from happening again? It’s the least that you could do .

Thank you to Roy, Kate, and of course @LondonAnaesth for speaking further about this tragic case. The public are not safe when there is a dilution of standards and a refusal of the regulator to set univeral limits on what is appropriate for PAs/AAs to do. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

.@BBCr4today Physician Associates do not study medicine. They study a two year diploma level course in Physician Associate Studies. Physician Associate is an occupation. Their qualification is an occupational one. They are not medical professionals - that's a term intended 1/2

Unilateral painful rash is shingles until proven otherwise. As others have said, "basic" knowledge for anyone with a bit of medical training and just illustrates how poor the PA training is and why they shouldn't be put in the situation they are in. Watch out for eye involvement

ND_MedStudent 💙 Reposted

This is why Physician Associates working in general practice must follow the @rcgp scope of practice and be properly supervised 🚨 General practice is not “easy”. How many more incidents like this have happened? Source: @NHSEngland patient safety reporting database (LFPSE)

That’s a terrifying (and utterly nonsensical) document. Who wrote and published it please?

ND_MedStudent 💙 Reposted

It’s the Trust local scope . Patients have died and come to harm because of it . More examples from 30+ Trusts here paprojectwatch.wordpress.com/category/polic…

ND_MedStudent 💙 Reposted

they have more time to make patients feel listened to while they make up medicine. IT's astonishing that we let PAs just talk utter crap to patient who think they are qualified

Maybe what we need is a little less BeKind and a little more BeCompetent.
