The #Marlins will be hiring Daniel Moskos as their new pitching coach per @MarlinsRadio’s show. Moskos, 38, is six years removed from his playing career. He spent one season in the majors in 2011 with Pittsburgh. Pitched in Mexico in 2018. Replaces Mel Stottlemyre Jr.

Angels are back in the ballgame. That’s about $100M spent (Soler, d’Arnaud, Hendricks, Newman too) for early MLB spending lead.
This a HUGE overpay on Kikuchi. Only one MLB season with an ERA under 4.00 (3.86 in 2023). Spotrac put his estimated market value at $14.9M. Feels like the Angels are shooting from the hip and just buying guys with no plan. They did the same thing at the ‘23 trade deadline
The #Angels aggressive offseason continues as they land LHP Yusei Kikuchi in free agency as 1st reported by @JonHeyman . The deal is 3-years, $63 million. Kikuchi went 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA over 10 starts after the #Astros acquired him from the #BlueJays at the trade deadline.

One player doesn’t make the team, that is true. But they are at the point where a superstar pushes them to the next level. Replace a 2 WAR player with an 8 WAR player, and you can’t ignore the numbers. The Cubs go from 83 wins to 89 wins on paper. That’s a playoff team
Ok, Cubs fans, I keep hearing the Cubs need a superstar to win. But the Cubs had Sammy Sosa for 13 seasons. He hit 30 plus HRs for 12 of them. The Cubs made the playoffs twice during that time frame. So I don't think a superstar will fix everything or anything for that matter.

Trading him only makes sense if the corresponding move is getting a star. Thi’s would give them $80-$90 mil for 2025 to work with. With that kind of money available, a star has to be the next move. Anything less would not be a good look
