And finally this super cool work — intervention-based learning of mixtures of DAGs, which are more powerful in abstracting the complexities of causal systems. We the usual suspects in the results: necessary & sufficient conditions for mixture recovery and an algorithm.
3) 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝗶𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 is fundamentally more challenging than learning a single DAG. We look into using interventions for causal discovery from a mixture of DAGs. Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2406.08666 Poster: West Ballroom A-D #5006 Thu 4.30pm
Burak & Emre will be presenting two papers on causal representation learning: (1) finite-sample guarantees (identifiability & algorithmic) and (2) unknown, multi-target intervention. Further evidence that our score-based method is highly versatile apt for diverse settings.
I'll be at #NeurIPS2024 (Dec. 10-15) to present our papers on causal representation learning, causal discovery, and causal bandits (see thread). Looking to meet old and new friends and chat on causality / representation learning.
Great reminder how our thinking is (often subconsciously & heavily) influenced by the precedence and being generous with acknowledging that is important.
Schmidhuber was working in the same field on the same artefacts just two decades too early. So I don’t interpret Schmidhuber as shit posting often. My post is about the statement “Attention was not discovered in machine learning”. This is a bad way to think about discovery, in…
The P&T letter I was working on was due last night. Now the delay is partly on you @overleaf!

President Marty Schmidt ’81 spoke at @economistimpact's 3rd annual Commercialising Quantum Global event this week. “What does being quantum-advantaged mean, and what will it take to educate a quantum-ready workforce for the near future?” he said. #EconQuantum #RPIQuantum

See our work on Causal Representation Learning at #AISTATS2024! @satajer is presenting at Oral: Causality session (Friday), and Poster Session 3 (Saturday). For the paper and code: bvarici.github.io/projects/CRL/
I’m excited to present our most recent results on causal rep. learning at @crl_neurips2023 #NeurIPS2023. We consider a general 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 latent causal model and the transformation from latent to observed space. arxiv.org/abs/2310.15450
Very nice results — revisiting an old problem and bringing new insights in the finite-sample guarantees.
[📜preprint] New results for an old problem We revisit the basic statistics problem "simple binary hypothesis testing": Given (i) two distributions p & q and (ii) n data points promised to be sampled either i.i.d. from p or i.i.d. from q, identify the true distribution
First of hopefully more campuses giving students access to work with quantum computers. Thanks to @IBM for their continued support!
Be part of history on April 5 as we reveal the @IBM Quantum System One on our campus! Join us for a ribbon-cutting celebration and lunch reception where you can enjoy our @StewartsShops Bicentennial ice cream. Register: bit.ly/4apqnqV #RPIQuantum #RPI200
agreed. by helping people along our way, we are positively contributing to the future and that is a legacy everyone should take pride in.
A wonderful team of theorists to work with.
