Here's the challenge for the Democratic Party: Missouri voted for a $15 minimum wage, paid sick leave, and abortion rights & Democrats cannot compete there at all. Why? The answer to that is the road to a comeback.

Not "one of". THE best, for my money.

feels right that I revisited one of the best movies ever made about New York City (and in general) today

I’m sorry, you got THIS FUCKING BOZO, this racist, centrist jerk, to talk about REDS???

Warren Beatty's epic REDS tells the story of American journalist John Reed who journeyed to Russia to document the Boleshevik Revolution and returned a revolutionary. Political commentator Bill Maher discusses the film with Ben Mankiewicz tonight at 8pm ET on Making Change.

Literally the thematic heart of the movie. TLJ makes no sense without it.

even among fans of this movie it’s become a popular concession to say this bit isn’t as good as the rest. fake news, terrific sequence in every way

RTD is the same (arguably even a better writer) as he ever was. The only difference is the absolutely absurd level of fan scrutiny that's become normal since. These people would have ripped the 2005 reboot to shreds frame by frame.

So... what was the point of this? "It's a joke", that's a bloody expensive joke. Could've negotiated the time and money used to get 15 extra minutes of the finale. Russell, you can't just say "it's a joke" to every weird unexplained thing.

Gatwa has been on fire from the first frame, giving us a more fully formed Doctor from the jump than any other actor who's played the part. His emotional openness is growth, his explicit queerness a relief. WTF is wrong with people, honestly?

i’m sick of people calling 15 unheroic for openly expressing emotions. why are we still out here enforcing toxic masculinity? not to mention calling him oversexualised for having a romantic interest in one episode when previous doctors had multiple the double standards are real

Debatably the best American film of the past 50 years. An absolutely essential, incredible work.

Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing was released in theaters on this day 35 years ago “Yo! Hold up! Time out! Time out!”

This is the problem with a lot of people who ‘wannabe’ writers, or envy writers. They don’t think the actual struggle of figuring things out is worth the effort. They don’t realise that is THE craft.

I saw the MaXXXine trailer at the pictures last night and wanted to climb over the seats and lick the screen with excitement. THIS IS MY THIRST TRAP

Hollywood can be a killer. Mia Goth returns as Maxine F*cking Minx in Ti West’s MAXXXINE alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon. Exploding into theaters July 4th weekend.

Do the execs even see the significance of what they've done? For game design, Austin is special - particularly this studio, these people & their game design lineage. Closing Arkane Austin is an act of vandalism: ring-barking a decades-old tree of game design knowledge.

I just want to say that I love all the people at Arkane Austin so much. Great times, hard times, we went through so much, together. Of course, today's news is terrible, for all of us. Your talent will lift you up, and I will do anything I can to help.

This movie is pure studio-note slop. A remarkably intelligent comic about popular literature reflecting the anxieties of the age turned into illiterate garbage. The existence of awful movies in 2024 does not make a bad movie from 2003 good.

I might actually be the only person who thinks that The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is an enjoyable movie. I've not seen it since it was released, but is it really any worse than the comic book movies that are being made today?

Like many Oshii sequels, an absolutely brutal meta commentary on the original.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is full of intoxicating visuals and technological dread. Dense but not slow. The dated CgI only adds to the futuristic melancholy. Action is excellent and uniquely detailed. I like it better than the first and Im dumb for avoiding it for so long

‘Let's go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over in 3 days’ https://t.co/RFU8fkJ4mM

An absolutely essential thread of what Protestant-specific religious horror is (since Christian horror is often assumed Catholic by default). As someone raised Lutheran / non-denominational I've always found the religion itself a deep source of horror, and this gets at why.

I've seen the 'no Protestant horror' do the rounds and I just assumed everyone knew that there is, in fact, lots of Protestant horror and oodles of Protestant Gothic. I can give some examples if people are interested?

Divisive? I thought the ending was the one thing everyone agreed on (it being great).

Just had a lovely conversation with two smart friends about all things James Bond, and how easy it can be to dismiss NO TIME TO DIE outright because of its (admittedly divisive) ending, when the movie does so many other things so well. #007

So Im halfway through BLUEY and writing a mega piece and its incredible. One of the best shows on TV. It zooms in on childhood psychology and emotion in a transcendent way and I honestly think “sleepytime” better nails what INTERSTELLAR kinda hit? Not a slight on the film! Just💜
