The two major budget items in the new Strategic Priorities are the widening of Kenaston and the extension of the Chief Peguis Trail. We’re told these projects are going to be economic drivers for our city. But, is that the case? Let's find out #winnipeg! anatomyofapothole.ca

One of the more corrosive parts of driving culture is the way we accept bending rules without regard for their purpose. Sure, go 10kph above the limit, even if that is the difference between 80% life and 80% death. Park 10 min early in a no-stop zone, in a bike route at rush hour

Someone earnestly told me they saw someone going 45 km/hr riding their bike on the sidewalk on Facebook today. People honestly have no idea how fast they are going in their cars.

Was driving 30 km/h around a construction zone (even though no one was working, imagine) and was able to easily stop when a small child chasing their puppy ran out in front of me. Slowing down saves lives. Do you want to start your day killing a kid and their dog? I don't!

Agreed. At a minimum, it should be the minimum on all residential streets that don't have sidewalks. But I'd like it everywhere. No driver should ever use a residential street to get THROUGH to somewhere. You should always be taking the shortest way to the nearest road.

My city has a problem with vehicle speed, weight and size. When will decision makers take this danger in our community seriously and fix it! winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2…

The police are busy. The province could give them access to automated enforcement on those streets to make them safer.

The speed limit reduction is a great idea, but only if it’s enforced. Wellington Crescent has a 30kph limit, but it’s rare to see any vehicle travelling much less than than 50.

Across the world a "Safe System" approach is being taken to managing road transport. Essential to that is the control of motor speeds. And the evidence and best practice is clear that where motors mix with people then 30km/h or 20mph should be the max allowable motor speed unless…

Vulnerable road users don't suddenly become "less vulnerable" because its a main road with "lots of drivers". That's just driver exceptionalism. In fact casualty stats show that main roads need 20mph limits just as much as residential roads. #20splenty wherever pedestrians and…

Agreed, however if the speed limit on all residential streets was 30 kph it could open up a lot of potential/alternative routes for people. @safespeedswpg

This is also a big part of why Winnipeg’s bike network is so disconnected and indirect: we can’t build a network of bike lanes that actually get people anywhere while keeping bike lanes off our major routes, and not building bike lanes on bridges.

There’s a reason they’re unwilling to actually name the side street alternatives for routes like Yonge and Bloor. It’s because they don’t exist, at least not over any substantial distance.

If Manitoba can afford (sic) to forego provincial gas taxes, maybe this should also be under consideration… some interesting lessons on implementation in this article.

E-bike rebates might be the most wildly popular transportation policy in the country right now. I visited Denver – the first US city to offer them– to see if reality matches the hype. In @CityLab 🧵 bloomberg.com/news/features/…

A few ideas for Halloween with young children Take your children to a nursing home today. Some of them give out candy in the lobby and your kid can do very well AND make someone’s day. Drivers. Please slow down and watch for kids. 30km or less. Stay off your phone.
