My essay on violence in India is up in the latest issue of @PacificAffairs I review three thought provoking books by @shrutikapila @jyotirmaya56051 & Vinayak Chaturvedi: pacificaffairs.ubc.ca/review-essays/…

As yet another Olympics has ended I write in @scroll_in that we need to reckon with the inherent inequalities in the #Olympics. The #OlympicGames has too many events, some of which are not popular, some that perpetuate inequality and some that should not be there at all

Opinion: As we savour the many moments of sporting excellence over the past fortnight, we also need to admit that there are serious problems with the Olympics, writes @ronojoy_sen scroll.in/article/1072051 The Games, which have inherent inequalities, showcase sports that are…

While India exults over its handful of medals and grieves over the near misses at #Olympic2024 here’s my take on #OlympicGames nationalism & India @htTweets hindustantimes.com/opinion/the-na…

My thoughts in @htTweets on the new #LokSabha and why we are likely to see considerable friction between the ruling party and opposition

#Opinion | "With an assertive #Opposition that now has 234 seats, the optics and dynamics of #Parliament have already dramatically changed," writes @ronojoy_sen hindustantimes.com/opinion/fricti…

There has been a lot of talk about God, the pope and divinity in recent times and during the Indian elections. But in Naples there is only one god. Fortunate to have visited his shrine

As we near the final stages of a never ending Indian election, it was a pleasure talking recently to @faamer of @AsiaPolicy and interacting with a vibrant group @AsiaSocietyNY in NYC on the elections and democracy. @Kunal_Khatri @GauravVermaNY @nandanadevsen @abhachandr

#ICYMI as an interesting and complicatedly long Indian elections reach its 6th phase, do not miss my chat with @ronojoy_sen on Indian democracy, voter perceptions, #PMModi’s clout, and more, watch here: youtu.be/vGyhYGy6Puo?si… #LokSabhaElections2024 #India @AsiaPolicy

It was good talking to @b_parkyn & @jyots43 for their story on #LokSabha2024. Attended a #NarendraModi rally last week @ Agra where the crowd seems to have come in large numbers to see but not listen to him as the pictures attest. The ground virtually emptied after his arrival👇

A short essay on the ‘peon’ published some years ago: tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.108

In the 19th century, colonial government became more regimented, creating the world of 'paperwork' that we know all too well. It took 'office peons', newly armed with English training, some time to come to grips with the system. The British found it all rather amusing, so they…

On Fellini’s birth anniversary recalling Presidency’s Challachitra Sansad and films shown in Derozio Hall. We were exposed to Fellini’s 8 1/2 & La Dolce Vita and other classics by Bergman, Kurosawa, Renoir. Goes to show that much of the learning in college was outside classrooms

Enjoyed spending some time in the archives @_NMML_, Delhi in December. Though NMML has been renamed Prime Ministers Museum and Library and the Teen Murti Bhavan grounds have far more security than before, some things have thankfully not changed 👇

Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur’s 113th birthday went unnoticed on New Year’s Eve. Was fortunate to have heard a terrific lecture by @izuberi on Mansur in December @IIC_Delhi with rare recordings.👇a photo of Mansur by Raghu Rai and link to Zuberi’s channel: m.youtube.com/user/izuberi

A pleasant surprise in a copy of the @htTweets which I picked up at @DelhiAirport As #Parliament plummets to a new low, hope ‘House of the People’ provides some perspective and context

Good talking to @jyots43 and @b_parkyn for the @FT story on #AssemblyElection2023 in India

Report from Rajasthan by ⁦@jyots43⁩ and ⁦@b_parkyn⁩ on #India’s five hard-fought state elections this year, which will provide an early indicator of voter support for Modi and the BJP on.ft.com/3sZ2bLE

Bishan Singh Bedi was a great cricketer on the field and an outspoken critic of the way cricket was run in India. He was one of the first to demand better pay for cricketers. Was very fortunate and humbled that #bishanbedi launched my ‘Nation at Play’ in 2015. RIP Bishan Bedi
