My latest book review on Hu Cheng's Rockefeller Foundation in China is out. I read the book in Chinese (Tapei Linking). Most gracious towards Prof. Edward W for the kind invitation. Visiting Osaka University (Japan) and Cambridge's Joseph Needham Institute soon, good progress!

I will present a paper drawn from the first section of my dissertation Pacific Crossings in Taiwan. I previously obtained lots of revision suggesitons from my MPI colleagues in Berlin. It's hard to squeeze time to do research during a busy teaching semester. The program is cool!

Interesting observations: after PhD, in China, I became familiar with being called "Xing laoshi"; in the US, Dr. Xing; in Germany, perhaps one day I'll be addressed with "Prof. Dr." (not back to Germany yet ), but when called "Xing 教授Chengji先生" in Taiwan is a real shock....

Thanks to my colleagues @MPIWG and our group @AnnaLiAhlers I lately significantly rewrote my draft paper and will present it further (the 19th International Conference on the History of Cultural Exchange: Cultural Collision and Misunderstanding) before submitting it finally.

What a great pleasure to work with bright and hard-working students at Nankai. I recruited two MA students this semester, and our CF working group just had a lovely hangout this weekend. Following with that my two classes in the week are well... excellent Qs posed by students!

mp.weixin.qq.com/s/KYQooZ6x7Y5S… In this workshop I presented my next project, trying to think about my long-term career as an Americanist in China, and also learned so much from other colleagues in the department. It was such a fruitful workshop for new faculty members, with good lunch!

When I designed the intensive-reading seminars for undergrads, I hesitated, but meeting students pouring into my office hours, and seeing their performance, I have no doubt that it will be a promising cohort. I love my students. Deeply exhilarated near the end of the US journey!
