So far in 2024, 155 women & girls killed, 4 more than same time in 2023. Information pending for at least another 40 - no accused IDed, 'suspicious' or #sex of victim not released. Proportion of male accused ⬆️from 89% in 2023 to 95% in 2024. NOT progress! #CallItFemicide

Julie’s points are spot on. And with the higher rates of femicide we also know there are higher rates of intimate partner violence and of sexual assault. #CallItFemicide

While testifying to the Parliamentary committee on the Status of Women last week, I was asked to explain why it is that rural women in Canada have such high rates of femicide compared to urban women. #CallItFemicide

Gentle reminder: apologies are lip service if they are not accompanied by changed behaviour. The United States still upholds genocidal policies against Indigenous people - just as Canada does here. And, both countries have not taken a firm stance on the current genocides.

I’m tired of the Indigenous community being used as political pawns at all levels of government. It’s really hard to see Biden’s apology and not question the timing. To not be physically uncomfortable with the amount of pomp, circumstance and general fanfare. We’ve seen /1

No matter the politics of it all, the apology from the President of the United States to Indian Boarding School survivors and families happened. It’s the first step towards reckoning with the truths and atrocities of the American Genocide aimed at children & opens the healing…

This should also be considered a hate crime. Too many assaults on Indigenous folks in the “healthcare” system and this mere weeks after the CMA apology for forced sterilization? #TruthAndReconciliation

Let’s clearly name that this is/was assault. He was not conscious to consent and cutting his hair was not vital to his care.

Prosecute people who are denying the genocide. Make the lying stop. This should not be tolerated and ignored.

This is exactly why Bill C-413 is necessary. Survivors need to be protected from hate speech. We have a responsibility to collectively protect the stories of survivors!

They stole them so young… if this photo doesn’t chill you to the bone, something is very wrong. Today is a tough one because thoughts of my Dad & so many other residential school survivors I know & love are coming in like a flood. #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation

Today we observe, not “celebrate”, Orange Shirt Day. It is our Remembrance Day. This day represents many lost children and widespread intergenerational trauma for our communities. Its a time to learn and reflect. #EveryChildMatters

Yes, the current reality is that if your account is public, you can't ever really block someone from seeing your tweets because they can simply log out and see your feed. But let's not kid ourselves – fucking with the block button is absolutely going to enable stalkers.

so if someone blocked their stalker, the stalker can still stalk them? wow this is a great feature

Today marks the beginning of Reconcilation Month. Be mindful that this can be a retraumatizing time for Indigenous people. Teachers, beyond Orange Shirt Day, be sure to also teach Indigenous resilience and excellence year round. Our existence is resistance. 🧡🪶 Art: CJ…
