— THE PRUNING It begins in early December: the double Guyot method is employed. At Pontet-Canet, right after pruning, the cut wood is protected with a biodynamic mixture that is applied using tools pulled by the horses. #chateaupontetcanet #pontetcanet #taille #pruning #horses

— HORSETAIL Collected around the château, then dried and kept in our herbal tea room, the horsetail is later used in decoctions (extraction by dissolution in boiling water) throughout the year. In winter, applied to pruning wounds, it constrains the development of fungal diseases

— OAK BARRELS Half of the production is aged in new barrels, 10 to 15 percent in second-fill barrels and, since 2012, 30 to 40 percent in Dolia. This reflects our determination to produce wines that are free of any artifice. Revealing the wine’s essence rather than its make-up.

— TRADITION Historically, the training is made with the ‘vime‘. This wicker, solid and natural, is the link between the vine and its stake. At Château Pontet-Canet, this tradition has lasted for decades.

— VINTAGES If they remain a faithful representation of each vintage, our WINE’S all share a common character. Deep and airy, with a dark robe, purple hues, and a subtle fruity nose. Depth on the palate is supported by melting tannins & a beautiful acidity. A high flying harmony.

— SOIL PROTECTION In order to avoid the compacting of soils caused by heavy tractors and to protect the old vines, the property decided, as from 2008, to introduce workhorses in the rows.

— 500 This essential biodynamic preparation is obtained by the transformation of cow manure that has been put into cow horns and buried in our vineyard during winter. Sprayed in spring on the soil, it stimulates the soil life and promotes deeper root growth.

— THE ROSE In the cellars of the Château, a rose is placed on every full vat. It’s a coutume which we have very much to heart and which remains strong over the years.
