Feeling stunned & buzzing to share that I passed my PhD viva this afternoon without corrections! 🥂 Thanks so much to my examiners @CJJFitzpatrick @IsabelleBrodie4 for a really interesting discussion & lovely feedback, plus my brilliant supervisors Tim Bateman & John Pitts 🙏

🙋‍♀️What about the girls? Dire, desperate & unsurprising findings in today's @HMIPrisonsnews report lays bare the urgent need for change. The independent review by Susanna Hancock @_YJB & consequent govt action must now direct & deliver this. hmiprisons.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/hmipris_report…

Delighted that Susannah Hancock @_YJB will lead an independent review into girls in custody - this issue has been at the centre of my research, PhD & policy work for many years, so I look forward to engaging alongside others ✊ An opportunity for long overdue change!…

Delighted to see the Young Advocates project featured as a case study in this @_YJB report - the project was delivered in partnership @the_AYJ & @LeadersUnlocked between 2020-24. It still warms my heart to see & hear what the young people are continuing to achieve 💛

Have you read our new report on racial disparity in the youth justice system? Through case studies of local practice delivered by YJSs & partners across the sector, it outlines ways to improve practice to tackle racial disparity and over-representation. gov.uk/government/pub…

The chancellor’s autumn budget statement will seriously impact the charity and voluntary sector. We're urging chancellor @RachelReevesMP to protect charities from increased employer National Insurance Contributions. Add your name to our letter to the chancellor today. 👇👇

We welcome @MoJGovUK recognition of major issues across the justice system that need long overdue redress. While the youth justice system is not experiencing the same prison capacity issues, there are still grave concerns for children being sentenced. (/1)

Today we’ve launched a landmark Sentencing Review to: ✔️ ensure there is always space in prison for the most dangerous offenders ✔️ explore tough alternatives to prison ✔️ help ensure offenders turn their backs on crime.

Our new report with @DianaAward @UKYouth shows how involving young Black people in the design of mental health services and policies can make support more effective, break down barriers, and reduce mental health stigma👇🏿centreformentalhealth.org.uk/publications/a… #ASpaceToBeMe

Yes @FloEshalomi!!! 👏👏👏 So good to see the work of @Abianda1 & @MilkHoneyBees highlighted in @UKParliament - both organisations doing brilliant work, spearheaded by exceptional founders & advocates for girls & young women in @AbiBillinghurst & @Ebinehita_ 🙌

The Young Futures programme must build on the work of the likes of @Abianda1 and @MilkHoneyBees in providing support for gang associated girls in our area and across the country. You can see me raise this in Parliament to the Home Secretary below:

Check out this new article by @HannahLSmithson & @DrDeborahJump 🙌 I’m delighted to see the @mcys_mmu @the_AYJ research on the impact of COVID on children in the youth justice system is still contributing to the evidence base & important theoretical/public policy discussions💡

16,996 young people were identified as potential victims of modern slavery in 2023 in the UK. But many cases aren’t referred due to young people being seen as perpetrators, not victims of modern slavery. We're working to change this: childrenssociety.org.uk/what-we-do/our… #AntiSlaveryDay2024
