I knew these woods very well growing up in this corner of Lichfield; a time when very few visited them, being then fully fenced off. Part of the woods found their way into my poem ‘Sonata’ a few years ago. Lovely to see and hear them in this brief, captured moment.

Happy Staffordshire Day from Leomansley Woods in Lichfield

Goodness—what a wonderfully arresting & truly beautiful new carol from @CherylHoad! Stunning! #NineLessons #NewMusic

A short🧵on prose-poetry: This is a page from proofs of JA Baker's The Peregrine (1967), marked up by Baker himself. It's an extraordinary self-analysis. He marks & counts stressed (\) & unstressed (u) syllables: 57.8% stressed! He tallies metaphors, similes & verbs: 15.7% verbs!

Grateful thanks to @finzi_friends, @roberts_gavin, Angus Meryon, and @TowersKatharine for a wonderful coming-together of poetry & music. It was such a lovely day of conversation & music-making, and very good to meet Kathy for the first time. A bit stressful at moments, but a joy!

A great day at Churchdown on Saturday with @roberts_gavin poet Katharine Towers @pgl_fecit & Angus Meryon, clarinet. Katharine talked about and read from her Finzi-inspired poems, let him bring a shrubbe, with music by @FinziTrust Gurney & Howells

I haven't had the space of mind to be able to write much, if anything, for a few years. Just occasionally, though, I revisit old drafts and try to tease them on. This is one that sometimes feels more present than others. #poetry

I felt very privileged to be singled out with Elgar and James McMillan on Trinity Cambridge’s new anthems disc for my Come out Lazar in the BBC Music Magazine reviews. It is an extraordinary performance!
