And next year? No mention of new year 13s taking A levels next year after missing 5 months of school. Will there be a guarantee that place numbers will not be reduced for this cohort? #alevels2021 bbc.co.uk/news/education…

Class of 2021: 🔐 months of missed school in lockdown 🦠 ongoing uncertainty (pandemic not over) 😫 pressure - every assignment / test / “mock” may end up counting 📉competition for fewer uni places 📈up against some of class of 2020 with inflated grades @lewis_goodall

Unfair for the class of 2021 too, who are going to have a ridiculously competitive admissions round on top of exams minus six months of education.

Thanks Lewis, top coverage. Please ensure the challenges facing students taking A levels in 2021 are followed up, real concern that deferred places from this year will unfairly reduce university access next year. Every student cohort must have equal opportunity to succeed.

Tomorrow’s Times: “thousands must delay university courses for a year”. Does this mean thousands of the class of 2021 will lose out?

The exam algorithm fiasco is not over. The pain and injustice has been transferred from this years’ A-level cohort to the class of 2021, who have already had so much disruption. A scandal.

So unfair on Year 12s. @ChurchillCol: “It will also sadly mean that next year's cohort of applicants, whose education has arguably been far more damagingly disrupted than this year's cohort, will likely face much more aggressive competition for entry” chu.cam.ac.uk/news/2020/aug/

There’s also huge concern about Year 12. Certain unis may end up with a swelled intake this year. It won’t be fair if disadvantaged kids next year pay the price. Teachers are also urging GOVT to think about how they will be examined NOW (as they’ve missed 6 months of school).

Still have mine!

Exactly 100 years ago today a young Swiss called Frederick Belmont opened a little café in Harrogate. He furnished it beautifully, filled it with treats & hoped people would like it. Thank you, Frederick, for having a dream. Thank you, all of you, for liking Bettys. #Bettys100
