More horror in the #GazaGhetto. The Israeli occupation forces have bombed a camp for displaced Palestinians in #Rafah, causing plastic tents to catch fire and tragically burning people alive. This cruelty, along with blatant defiance of the int'l law and system, is unacceptable.…
Horrible scenes of a new massacre in Rafah: The Israeli army committed a horrific massacre in North West Rafah which is supposed to be a safe area bombarding and burning tents of displaced Palestinians killing more than 30 civilians many of whom were burned to death and injuring…
U of T’s Women & Gender Studies Institute turned 50 this year, so when they asked me to speak about feminism, it was a chance to reflect on its meaning, the limitations of “leaning in,” and how to be a feminist with all our identities intact. #IWD2024 thestar.com/opinion/star-c…
Horrific reports confirmed that, over the last few days only, at least 10 children died of malnutrition in #Gaza These deaths are man-made, predictable and entirely preventable. #Gaza has become hell on earth. When will the world say "enough"?
At least ten children have reportedly died because of dehydration and malnutrition in Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Northern Gaza Strip in recent days. Statement by @adelekhodr, on malnourished babies in Gaza slowly perishing under the world’s gaze.
Israel’s leading journalist Gideon Levy tries to understand his country’s extreme violence against children. “It’s happening, even now, just over a one-hour drive from Tel Aviv. “It’s happening without being reported in Israel, without any public debate over the violent…
Punishment of the victims: Following the ICJ resolution on Israeli Genocide a shameful decision by USA, Canada, Italy and Australia to suspend emergency support to UNRWA. No punitive acts against Israel which killed 102 of UNRWA aid and health workers in Gaza.
🧵If you missed the International Court of Justice hearing in the Hague this morning in the case of South Africa vs Israel alleging genocide in Gaza, I reported the hearing live. Thread below: x.com/jeremyscahill/…
South Africa's legal team begins argument at ICJ by saying, "South Africa has recognized the ongoing Nakba against the Palestinian people."
“What a Gazan Should Do During an Israeli Air Strike” by Mosab Abu Toha, a Palestinian poet who was kidnapped by Israel today.
Massive Israeli bombing of Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza. Initial reports of huge numbers of casualties. Absolutely horrific. How is this still being allowed to continue?
All of Canada needs to stop what they are doing, spare a thought for the child whose jawbone was found on the grounds of the Qu’Appelle Indian Residential School in Lebret, Saskatchewan. Bone is about 125 years old, Sask coroner says. Child was btwn 4 to 6 years. @fsinations
Sensationalized reports about students at York Memorial have created a narrative that blames the largely Black, lower-income student body for the school’s problems—while ignoring the TDSB’s role in the crisis, writes @royinori thelocal.to/york-memorial-…
Retweet this if you stand in solidarity with CUPE education workers.
Today, I visited Anima Mundi, part of the Vatican Museum with Indigenous “artifacts” kept in the Church’s private collection. There is an “Ontario”pipe stove from the 18th century, Haida Gwaii masks from the 18th Century, much more. I photographed them and was asked to leave.
THREAD: Why are unions and other progressives so upset about @fordnation invoking the #notwithstandingclause to shut down 3rd-party advertising?
1996. That’s when the last residential school closed I graduated in 1995 from one of them. Don’t tell me or anyone else that this was a long time ago.
Our people have been telling these stories for generations. This is not news to us. What I wanna know is the names of the people who worked at these schools and committed these atrocities because many of them are still alive and out in the world with no repercussions.
You can't make this up. In the midst of an international scandal about @UofT terminating a hire over pro-Palestinian speech... there is now a petition urging @UofT to dismiss *another* faculty over pro-Palestinian speech. @RitikaGoelTO is an amazing advocate. #ISupportDrGoel
A letter demanding the removal of Dr. @RitikaGoelTO surfaced in response to her solidarity with Palestine. I'm so disappointed by colleagues that drafted this letter. There is no place for intimidation & stifling advocacy by calling for the removal of faculty. #ISupportDrGoel
This has happened and will happen again in Toronto unless we get ahead of it. I hope Hamilton can get a handle on this
There are now 214 total cases in three apartment buildings in Hamilton, Ontario. I'm making a delegation to the City of Hamilton Board of Health on Monday with suggestions for immediate actions.
