A huge congratulations to Bo and colleagues on their ERC Synergy Grant 🎉👏 RECLESS - Recycling versus loss in the marine nitrogen cycle: controls, feedbacks, and the impact of expanding low oxygen regions 🔬

Deoxygenation effects the ocean's ability to store carbon. But how exactly this works is unclear. New research will create the 1st comprehensive global model of ocean microbial ecosystems, helping predict how deoxygenation impacts #climatechange. 👉 europa.eu/!TPhxF3

🎉Exciting news! Professor Mathias Middelboe from SDU’s HADAL Center and Postdoc Sachia Traving have received a DFF1 grant of 3.1 million DKK for their project titled: “Prophage-encoded auxiliary metabolic genes: Key factors in prokaryotic metabolism in deep-sea sediments?” 🌊

More September discoveries: @VctorFernndezJ1 published an mBio paper exploring how temperature, sediment resuspension, and salinity drive the prevalence of Vibrio vulnificus in the Baltic Sea. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mb…

In late September, @Beate_Kraft co-authored a paper: "Widespread occurrence of dissolved #OxygenAnomalies, aerobic microbes, and oxygen-producing pathways in seemingly #AnoxicEnvironments." 🌍✨ Led by @EmilRuff et al.,. Read here: doi.org/10.1093/femsec…

Check out our latest discovery from @AmeliaRotaru's team! 🔥 Intraspecies diversification and adaptation make a #methanogen more #corrosive! Led by @satoshikw1, with Rhitu as co-author in collaboration with Jacek from SDU NanoSYD. Read here: nature.com/articles/s4152…

Our PhD student Leah Brinch-Iversen published a short Tools of the Trade article in Nature Reviews Earth Environment on exploring the hadal zone with lab-on-chip sensors. Read it here: doi.org/10.1038/s43017…

Our postdoc Sachia Traving (@sachiaBIO) published new research with collaborators at Aarhus University on plankton community metabolism variations in two temperate coastal waters with contrasting nutrient richness. Read more: doi.org/10.1029/2023JG…

Our new postdoc @NagakuraToshiki had his PhD work from GFZ Potsdam published in FEMS Microbiology Ecology, studying microbial anabolic and catabolic utilization of hydrocarbons in deep subseafloor sediments of the Guaymas Basin. Check it out: doi.org/10.1093/femsec…

Our @nordcee postdoc @RhituKotoky co-authored a July article on how bioaugmentation of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria enhances phosphorus bioavailability in the rhizosphere of Allium hookeri. Read more: doi.org/10.1007/s13205…

Our new postdoc, Tetyana Gilevska (@TaniaGska1), published a book chapter on Compound-Specific Isotope Analyses for tracking pesticide transformation in soil and water. Check it out: doi.org/10.1007/978-3-…
