New blog post in collaboration with @ncclementi on using Ibis + DuckDB + Lonboard for analyzing and visualizing large geospatial data ibis-project.org/posts/ibis-ove…
After 1 year at Voltron Data, I found myself along with my teammates and 50+ people in need of a job I have plenty experience building OSS Python data tools, presenting at conferences and OS community management. If you think I'd be a good fit for a job please let me know
It's never been a better time to get involved with Ibis! If you need Python dataframes that work on the best local engines (@duckdb, @ApacheDataFusio, @DataPolars) and distributed/cloud platforms (@ApacheSpark, @SnowflakeDB, @ClickHouseDB, @trinodb), give us a try!
Want to work with Python dataframes on a trillion rows of data in someone else's high-performane OLAP database? Check out our latest blog using Ibis, @ClickHouseDB , and Shiny for Python to build an interactive dashboard on the PyPI downloads dataset: ibis-project.org/posts/better-p…
Ah yes, I remember buying that textbook
If the #IndianaFever stops turning the ball so much, they'll be unstoppable. More than 17 turn overs to in 3 quarters and only down by 4 pts.
Ibis is on the front page of Hacker News for dropping its support for the pandas backend. ibis-project.org/posts/farewell… Key reasons: 1. Pandas is painfully slow. 2. Pandas has a lot of specialized code that makes it less compatible with other data systems. 3. Feature parity:…
Last night WGXC DC hosted our inaugural Beginner Python Night at @afiniti! We brought together members of the community to learn Python skills in a friendly and supportive environment. Thank you to our organizers and volunteers as well as @afiniti for their support!
We’re 1 week away from this event! Come on out for a great Thursday evening in the district!
Are you interested in learning Python and meeting other members of the community? Join us in person for a Beginner Python Night on the 22nd of Aug! No prior experience necessary, come meet other learners and chat with experienced volunteers. meetup.com/women-and-gend…

I’ve been really impressed with @IbisData so far. Modern data stacks need to be flexible passing data between @PostgreSQL, dataframes, and analytics dbs like @duckdb or @ClickHouseDB Super helpful to have one common query language connecting these data sources
@IbisData works great for both small and large datasets. For example, @duckdb is often faster than pandas, on pandas dataframes. Paired with Ibis, this creates a high performance, flexible and portable DataFrame API second to none.
Are you at the #positconf ? Join @cpcloudy tomorrow Wednesday 14th at 2pm PT in the session "It's R And Python, Not R Or Python" and learn how the do we test 20 query engines on every commit in CI in the @IbisData project repo. reg.conf.posit.co/flow/posit/pos…
Reminder that @IbisData as of 9.3 can now be used without any heavier-weight dependencies like numpy, pandas, and pyarrow. You could, for example, use this to provide a cross-backend DataFrame API to your users while managing execution elsewhere.
If you're wondering "What the heck is @IbisData?", check out our tutorial pages here: ibis-project.org/tutorials/gett… If you run them on @github codespaces you don't have to install anything locally to try things out.

Other fun stuff in @IbisData 9.3: pip install ibis-framework, and you've got a tiny library you can build on top of that turns DataFrames into SQL. People asked for a lighter-weight version of Ibis, and it's now available.
