To slow the global loss of biodiversity, we need tools to evaluate species at risk and the threats facing them. SES Prof Helen Rowe and Clayton Meredity (NM BioPark) created a Sonoran Desert threats map and have it available (github.com/mereclay/North…). tinyurl.com/338xbsyy

Meet our SES Ambassadors! Our Ambassadors are leaders in our school to assist incoming and current students. They will also create additional ways for our community to connect and grow. Stop by their office hours in the SES Office, Ashurst A108, with any questions! (2)

SES Professor @duanbiggs and colleagues documented an extraordinarily long swim (>1 km!) by two male lions in Uganda across a channel filled with predators, an example of tough decisions by wildlife confronting challenges. nytimes.com/2024/06/14/sci…

Congratulations to SES grad student Carly Pierson, who won the "Best Applied Student Project" award at the recent Society for Ecological Restoration conference. Congrats, Carly!

Our results suggest caution in interpreting local climate changes as globally significant events. Climate excursions were common throughout the Holocene but rarely globally coherent. Read the paper for a comprehensive look at Holocene climate excursions nature.com/articles/s4146…

The NAU paleoclimate group spent the summer coring Alaska lake sediments to obtain records of glacier and climate fluctuations. Very successful field work, and the views weren't bad either... @USGS_Quakes @Battelle @NSF @npmckay @DKaufman1
