In 1976, the section of Interstate 95 connecting Palm Beach Gardens with Miami was opened to the public. This section had ended on PGA Boulevard and it was not until December 19, 1987 that the 44-mile "missing link" from Palm Beach Gardens to Fort Pierce was finished.
