Balancing work, raising school-aged children, & supporting aging parents is really hard, but through this experience I have gained confidence & valuable skills. What skills have you learned as a working caregiver, and how do you apply them to excel in your job? #WorkLifeBalance

As high healthcare systems user, I've often been asked to share my story, but sometimes doing so did more harm to me than good. I need to remind myself that healthcare engagement should always be part of a win-win partnership.

Regular reminder that systems and org's put a ton of responsibility on #Patients to advocate for themselves in places where they don't hold the power. I really wish that energy could be used to collaborate/move forward together instead.

So, I’m going to try to comment on this without sarcasm. This is not an apology. An apology requires that you acknowledge you did something wrong - ie not ‘we hurt the community’, but rather ‘our post had the consequence of belittling patients’

[1/2] We recognize that our most recent social media post was hurtful to many in our community and for that we apologize. This was not meant as an attack on those who advocate for their own health and that of their loved ones. We will be more careful in future.

Wow. The difference between how the researchers see this post…and the individuals with lived experience is quite telling of a larger problem with privilege, power dynamics and humility. This isn’t funny. It’s embarrassing for CIHR and anyone in the thread having a laugh.

It was amazing to participate in the conversation with @jenjohannesen Her words are so articulate and impactful! Thank you @CdnCaregiving for making this possible!

I spoke at the Canadian Caregiving Summit Nov 23, re "Caregiving and Work". Thru a bioethics lens I contemplate the cost of extreme caregiving, reflecting on lack of choice, financial dependency, and challenges to building a career. Transcript in link! johannesen.ca/2024/01/caregi…

I’m seeing these huge gaps with friends with complex kids, going before me into the adult world. And it is my greatest anxiety that we will have to brace ourselves for this too. Healthcare is NOT ready for our children.

Children with complex medical conditions are living a lot longer, but aging out of the system designed to support them. The dedicated multidisciplinary teams that care for children don't exist for adults, by @_joyscm theglobeandmail.com/canada/article… via @globeandmail #disability
