Our urgent care never charged facility fees for 17 years! We moved a year ago & they re-credentialled as an HOPD allowing them to charge them. Our door still says Urgent Care w op disclaimer in tiny letters at the very bottom of the door. Tell me thats not intentional deception.
At the very least, patients should be informed that this is an HOPD and that they will be charged a facility fee. All fees should be posted prior to treatment.
I cant even give a patient an accurate estimate anymore. EPIC assigns cpt codes based on documentation. But, it still has to be reviewed by coding prior to billing. I just say approx $300 facility fee & $168 prof fee w lab & xray additional. Plus, they tack on more for DME.
