If you are looking for something to take your mind off politics — this interview I did with Quincy Jones years ago really is a great listen.

We lost the unmatched @QuincyDJones this week. Listen to this classic interview by @michele_norris in which the legend tells his story in his own words. Come for the Chicago mobsters, stay for Ray Charles. @jmsummers @arishapiro Listen: harkaudio.com/november-6-202…

A non-election prediction. Applications to Howard university will skyrocket next year

Democracy is a verb. Let’s remember that today

It was so wonderful to see all those NY marathon runners with their orange ponchos and gold medals around their neck yesterday and this morning in Manhattan Congratulations to all. If I ever achieved something like that, I would wear that medal all year long !

So saddened to hear about passing of Quincy Jones. He was the coolest cat in every room he entered over seven decades. In music, film and humanitarian work, his genius is unparalleled. Take a moment to listen to this 2008 interview I did w/ him for NPR npr.org/2008/11/27/965…

It all goes so fast! Hope everyone had a ghoulish good time. To all the parents juggling costumes, candy & kiddles amped up on excitement & bite-sized snicker bars, I salute you and encourage you to enjoy every moment & have a snicker or two yourself. My kiddles are now adults

If you have a pre-existing condition, if you’re on Medicaid, have a child under 26 still on your insurance, are concerned about lifetime or annual limits on coverage or have enjoyed coverage for health screenings and vaccinations — you might want to pay attention to this

Mike Johnson says one of Trump’s top priorities will be to repeal the Affordable Care Act and rip away health care from tens of millions of Americans: “No Obamacare”

Interesting thread

We had a flurry of new polls in PA today that net out to an effective tie. Those who know me well know I’m not much of an optimist. But gather ‘round the campfire. Let me explain why I’m bullish on Harris in PA — and it has nothing to do with polls or early/mail voting. 🧵

Democrats in Wisconsin at a Kamala Harris rally are chanting “USA. USA. USA!!” Harris has turned the tide on the idea that the GOP owns the mantle of patriotism.

Worth the listen

Madison Square Garden v. the Ellipse: We brought together selections from Trump's and Harris's big speeches. It's illuminating to hear them together in these 11 minutes: npr.org/2024/10/30/nx-…

It is not lost on me that Kamala Harris is helping democrats seize back the narrative around patriotism. With the defense of decency, the flags and stagecraft, and an extended vision as evidenced in her statement about “the patriots at Normandy, Selma, Seneca Falls & Stonewall.”

This is powerful and beautiful. A treasure and a measure of how far we have come and how close that history is to those of us considering our choices at the ballot box right now

My grandparents paid poll taxes. See receipts. Annually, my father reminds me that my absentee ballot arrived late in 2000. He died in 2019, alas.... The receipts? Artwork our brother created w/our grandparent's poll tax receipts. And that's an old early vote photo of me. 🗳️…

“We have to stop pointing fingers and start linking arms”

There is something very powerful about Kamala Harris going to the source of our nation’s wound to write a new chapter in the history around January 6th by making a closing argument at The Elipse

Weaponizing fear to make humans hate each other is a diabolically destructive political tool. And sadly — it’s highly effective in some quarters. But that MSG hatefest on Sunday will backfire creating a backlash that will shape the contours is the last 6 days of this election
