Lament of a lawyer

"This amendment was never about creating a more responsive and accountable judiciary, but one that could be more easily managed by a hybrid regime that is insecure about its own future." Must read:

Conceived by discarding every principle of democracy, the 26th amendment lacks legitimacy. For all the talk of its sovereignty, parliament was fundamentally undermined. Wrote a piece after a long time on the disaster that is the 26th amendment. dissenttoday.net/featured/heres…

🧵 On Justice Amin-Ud-Din's "constitutional jurisprudence". Of the handful he has decided, only 4 can really be described as constitutional cases. In 2022 he would join the majority in allowing the review petition against the SC's original order in Qazi Faez Isa's case.

This is literally what I am asking myself right now.

Me to the Partner: Hey, so if the country devolves into a Lord of the Flies style anarchy tomorrow night do I still need to keep working on this legal research memo?

As not only a mother but a citizen I find it reprehensible State has such arrogance of power that they r denying access to Imaan/Hadi of basic food, water & lawyers. How does this basic access create security threat? Denial of FIR to lawyers after arrest is totally illegal

This is the least that Pakistanis can do. This and donating. Do it for 🇵🇸

"Chief Justice Isa’s verdicts, however, are already proving transient. Part of this is down to their content: the shallow reasoning; the unaddressed questions; the misapplied precedent; and random, ad hominem attacks." Must read:

Israel is *now* violating international law, according to the human rights lawyer, Philippe Sands. Lady Hale, Lord Sumption and 600 Lawyers did not need to wait a year. Here is what they said in April.

Tried to make clear here to @alinashigri that the bar association leaders who are speaking on official letterheads are doing so in their personal capacity. They do not have the democratic mandate to speak for the lawyers body without seeking their opinion first. And they do…

About time someone from within the SC called Qazi out for the way in which he has ridiculed former and sitting judges in his recent "decisions". Too little, too late though.

CJP's minority judgment actually amounts to contempt of court and misconduct. His intention is clearly to obstruct implementation of majority order. Ironically, to the extent of comments on the clarificatory orders, it is outside the scope of the actual proceedings before him.

CJP Qazi Faez Isa’s minority judgment in the reserved seats case is unbecoming of a Judge & undermines the credibility of his own institution. To date, ECP has failed to comply with the reserved seats decision, and the CJP is encouraging defiance of the Court.
