Here’s how Asteroid RW1 looks like from Gonzaga, Cagayan, Philippines. Best shot so far!! 😍

📣UPDATE: We expect the ~1 m asteroid discovered this morning to strike Earth's atmosphere over the Philippines near Luzon Island at 16:46 UTC today. However the nearby tropical storm Yagi/Enteng will make fireball observations difficult. Stay safe everyone!

⚠️☄️Incoming! A roughly 1 metre asteroid will strike Earth’s atmosphere over the Philippines near Luzon Island at 17:08 UTC today, 4 September. The object is harmless, but people in the area may see a spectacular fireball! Discovered this morning by the Catalina Sky Survey,…

Our current prediction sees the most likely atmospheric entry above the pacific, to the northeast of the Island of Luzon (Philippines)

BIG NEWS! CSS observer Jacqueline Fazekas has just discovered a small meteoroid that will harmlessly impact with Earth's atmosphere in about 8 hours over the Western Pacific. The object (called CAQTDL2) is small, a few feet in diameter. Attached are the discovery images.

Another very busy night on our #MeteorCameras last night in #Oxfordshire with #Perseids rates ramping up. We had 1,184 matched #meteors across the UK last night! The dotted lines are aircraft that were in the shot at the same time as a meteor #MeteorShower #Perseids2024

#Meteor rates are really starting to pick up on our 4 #GMN #MeteorCameras now. Over a hundred per camera thanks to the #Perseids #KappaCygnids #AlphaCapricornids #SouthernDeltaAquarids + sporadics. The aircraft trails were in the same frame as a meteor but not counted.

This is a stack of all detections on one night from one meteor camera. More than 95% of all the trails are satellites and more than 80% of all those are part of Starlink. New cameras are part of a project led by @meteordoc to track all objects in LEO over Canada.

🌌 The Winchcombe #meteorite is a complex breccia from various CM chondrites, a cosmic jigsaw of jumbled puzzles. 🚀 Its history shows repeated collisions and reforms, with signs of water alteration hinting at past CO2 ice. This could explain carbonate veins on #asteroid #Bennu!
