I think, and talk, about Jews... a lot. Passionate about the history of medieval Anglo-Jewry and I wrote my PhD on records of debt to Jews, 1194-1276. Dyslexic.

Now that I’ve signed the contract, I’m super excited that over the next three years, I’ll be writing my book ‘Jews and Christians in Medieval English Towns’ with Palgrave! Not the book of the thesis but a project that’s been with me just as long. Let’s do it!

I'm not leaving, I'll be spending more time procrastinating elsewhere.

Looking forward to speaking at the Hampshire Archive Trust in January where I'll talk about the Winchester Jewry, members of the community, and, because I have to these days, neigbours and neighbourliness. hampshirearchivestrust.co.uk/events/licoric… @JHSEngland @CMRR_Winchester @WinchesterHods

We're back! Having worked through the Linc properties in 1290 we're now on to those of Jews executed in the Little Hugh case, working primarily on an unpublished grant in a Lincoln Record Office cartulary, supplemented by the Charter, Patent, and wonderful Fine Rolls of Henry III

‘If Reginald Smith wrote anything, it is probably out of date by now’… The if doing the heavy lifting of a proper historian there!

A nice find by @VCH_London - a 1935 update from the great HE Salter about work commissioned for @VCHOxfordshire Vol.I since 1902. Familiar names, incl Percy Manning (folklorist and collector), WJ Arkell (of Oxford Stone fame), and ET Leeds (archaeologist and Keeper of Ashmolean)!

Just two weeks! As an added ‘bonus’, I’ll (attempt to) explain one of the most difficult weeks for medieval Jews throughout the Middle Ages - Holy Week - through the medium of a graph. Because that’s what traditional discussions of Jewish-Christian relations is missing…!

On annual leave this week, so taking the chance to write my David Patterson lecture for Oxford next month. I'll be speaking about my @PalgraveHistory book project thinking about Jews and Christians as neighbours 1066-1290.I'll be decanting to Oxford tomorrow to get into the zone!

To celebrate Stand Up Awareness Week, I was delighted to be asked to write a library blog on the surprising LGBTQIA+ material held in the collections of @Library_RIA now published online. ria.ie/blog-category/…

Tonight! If you’re in the area do come along.

For those who can't make it to Oxford, I'll also be giving a sneak peak @BoltonHistory on 4 November with ‘(Everybody needs good) Neighbours: Jews and Christians in the Towns of Medieval England’. @histassoc @BSGDHistory @Jess__Power__

1 November 2024 - 734 years since the Jews were expelled from England and 3 years until my book is due to Palgrave...

A screaming acknowledgment of debt. A gentle reminder this Halloween that, whatever the occasion, the records of medieval Anglo-Jewry have you covered!

The Truth About Herod the Great 31 Oct 8pm - Zoom An energetic ruler who took advantage of Roman revolution chaos to become a major figure in a changing world. But does he deserve his posthumous reputation as a wicked tyrant? £5 - Members free Book! ⬇️ jhse.org/event-details/…

A pleasure to get 2 irate messages about this. Apparently, I'm incapable of understanding what I'm talking about because of my personal religious beliefs... Well that's the past 15 years down the drain. Now that I've been outed, I expect they'll be coming for my PhD any day!

Although happy about any interest in med. Anglo-Jewry, it must be accompanied by historical understanding. Sadly, that’s not the case with the recent comment on the London Jewish cemetery @stgilescg in @JewishNewsUK et al My comment mjsnow.hypotheses.org/15142 @JHSEngland @mrmainelli

I’m not one for regrets but… it’s a tragedy that the title of this talk isn’t also the title of the monograph! Looking forward to returning to @BoltonHistory

📅A reminder that we are welcoming @medievaljews on Monday 4th November for a talk about Christian and Jewish communities in medieval England. The lecture begins at 6:30pm. We hope to see you there! For the rest of our programme please look at our branch website.👇

Does anybody happen to have access to this? I'm on a tight deadline and struggling to get hold of a copy: Pam Manix, Oxford: Mapping the Medieval Jewry in The Jews of Europe in the Middle Ages

Transcriptions this afternoon not helped by MS Word sneakily autocorrecting words, such as manibus to minibus... On the other hand, moneylending transactions might have been much smoother had they gone by minibus and opposed to by hand!
