Delighted to co-author this new piece with my incredible colleagues at @KnowledgeMtrs Would be honored if you read and let us know what you think! "Kids are innately curious. They want to know how things work, where they come from, and how we got here." knowledgematterscampaign.org/post/a-history…

As an addendum, centralized doesn't mean "a decision that is not made by teachers or has no input from us." In fact, teachers should be front and center in making collective decisions about curriculum. My point is that these decisions should be collective.

Whenever I hear discussions about teacher workload, I immediately think about the need for well-designed, rigorous CENTRALIZED CURRICULUM. There are a million other tasks that demand our mental resources, so why not reduce the cognitive load of this one?

Professionaliize teaching. Respect educators time + talents by providing strong curriculum. AND, give time and structures for collaboration and professional learning to maximize routines and yield the most learning from those materials. @RaquelMTeaches says it best ⬇️

Most high-yield fluency routines are efficient--check out Nate's below 😍⬇️

I have been asked how I teaching reading fluency, here’s my response. 1. I usually start with a text connected to what we are studying in history or science. Although, sometimes I use a poem, which helps with prosody. 2. I read the text out loud. 3. I review difficult…

Inferencing skills occur when you have knowledge about something.  Another way to think about it is to think about near-transfer.  But if you don’t know anything, your extensions or ability to transfer is based on merely guessing. You need a solid foundation to inference well.

If you are looking for an absolutely brilliant educator, researcher and presenter you should let me introduce you to my impressive friend Dr. Oberle ⤵️

#edutwitter With my doctorate & now the #rEDDE conference behind me, I’m beginning to think more seriously re: a transition out of the classroom. I’d love to be part of transforming the way we educate pre&in-service teachers. I’d be grateful for any suggestions or referrals.

A thread worth reading and considering! ⬇️ "My students are making the growth they are bc our conditions are set up for instruction and feedback and practice and LEARNING" 👏👏👏YESSS Abby!

🎙️Tonight, I was talking to a friend in another district was asked what I’m doing with my kinders to see the growth I am. Her district uses the same Foundational Skills program I do and they aren’t seeing the data they were hoping for. 1/8

Know better, do better! 😍

Episode 3 of the Know Better Do Better Podcast is here! Join us as the Libens discuss the pitfalls of a strategy-first approach in education. As Meredith Liben says, “We’ve done it too.” Let’s rethink comprehension together! 🎧 knowledgematterscampaign.org/post/ep-3-know…

I will never forget when I watched Nadal beat Federer for the first time. In the interview after he said, "I got to win today. And Roger gets to keep being the greatest tennis player in the world!" He is an inspiration as an athlete and the picture of humble leadership.

Rafa, one post is not enough to express the respect I have for you and what you have done for our sport. You have inspired millions of children to start playing tennis and I think that’s probably greatest achievement anyone can wish for. Your tenacity, dedication, fighting spirit…
