So you are saying yes, just… not in *your* backyard?
My hot take is that if this is going to get built, it might as well get built in Vegas and I’m ok with that If it fails, it’ll join a long history of failed attractions from days gone by If its successful (unlikely) LV will have a functioning transport system essentially for…
Man oh man! #CNU31 has been so much fun so far. The entire @VERDUNITY team is here. We’ve been inspired, and intrigued and learned a lot, and we just saw @KnightsBaseball win in extra innings! @planning_guru @k_shepherd
A guide to urban planning programs: If a program's cover photo or featured image is a highway, pick another program.
A couple of my colleagues are giving a presentation on policies/tools that undermine fiscal productivity and APATX this week. This is one of the items they are discussing twitter.com/RikAdamski/sta…
This is why we can’t have nice things. And cities in general are moving in this direction. If you live in or near a biggish city, you’re probably not on a different trajectory than this. You’re just not as far along.
Made me think of you @stevemouzon

This is peak chaotic good.
A story in 3 acts: - Apr 3rd community request: "we desperately need a crosswalk painted here" - Sept 30th: CCLA paints two crosswalks - Oct 18th: LADOT removes both crosswalks We will not be deterred and will continue painting. If the city doesn't keep us safe, we keep us safe.
Finally, you can no longer be fined in California for "jaywalking", a derogatory term based on a slur that the auto industry made up in the 1920s-30s to shame pedestrians for using the public streets. 100 years late is better than never. ktla.com/news/new-law-a…
At the UH game hoping to see the Coogs smoke these Owls and Benjamin marching at halftime with the Spirit of Houston Band! #GoCoogs
I’m hoping #cities and #urbandesign twitter can help me out here. I’m trying to find great examples of places and buildings that people might have considered “blighted” but were reactivated via low-cost, low-risk improvements. Feel free to RT.
As someone who has been repeatedly infuriated by the nuance and complexity of zoning from one community to another this Go Cultivate episode was really great. The Zoning Atlas is a must see resource and @sarabronin is really awesome. verdunity.com/podcast/zoning…
Alright @stevemouzon please give me your assessment of this. I’m gonna go ahead and say I like it. thisiscolossal.com/2022/05/villa-…
One of the better parts of aging is being less concerned about when the the next big thing will get here. I’m still excited when new great things arrive, but I’m not so paralyzed by the anticipation.
every American urbanist eventually asks this question
We know of at least 24 cities in North America which have repealed all of their costly car parking mandates.* It's a growing list with cities of all sizes. * Cities may still have parking requirements for a few specific uses or in special cases.
I discovered my neighbourhood was developed in the 1840s so decided to add an 1840 section to my ‘cars are getting bigger’ drawing. All the same scale.
Going back through my pictures from #CNU30 and one thing that stands out: all of the ‘non-frontage’ parts of @WheelerDistrict had as much detail and thought given to them as the the rest. Alleys and mid block crossings were as inviting as the sidewalk.
Does anyone in OKC know the story behind the first floor of this building? Did the bank gut what was otherwise a space for people to make a drive through? Was there some drive through purpose for this petroleum company originally?
The Library in Lockhart Texas is the old Masonic Temple, talk about great adaptive reuse. Wonderful looking building getting a great new life.
