No matter what NIMBYs claim, in the real world shade is pretty pleasant in city parks

New Haven is the 195th largest city in the USA (pop 130,000) and has the 9th busiest Amtrak station in the nation. It’s almost as if running frequent train service to multiple destinations from a dignified station is what this country needs in every city > 25,000 people.

police officers just reprimanded my friends and I for sitting in the grass and eating poutine because “the park is closed.” how can a park be closed? is this not a public space? is a cop car driving through the grass not a bigger disturbance than me eating poutine

Probably the most surreal experience of my professional life -- So, evidence of the collapse of car sprawl is growing every day: The home insurance crisis is the tip of the spear, but underneath that is local and state fiscal crises around maintaining sprawl infrastructure.

Every time I go to the bike shop they are sheepish if it’s over $50. Car mechanics charge that to pop the hood. Bicycles are so incredibly affordable.

My bike is at the shop for its annual overhaul. The mechanic called to warn me that it needs a -lot- of work (I rode all winter and I'm rough on things). They said I might be looking at as much as $200 more than I had expected. $200 is like, one tire on a car, right?

Just spoke to Jesus Campos (left), who works for Brawner Builders, the company employing the crew of workers who were filling potholes on the Key Bridge when it collapsed. When I asked if he knew if the crew was notified of the "mayday" call from the ship, he said, "no."

LOL I read report, had a hunch about why Houston -- fastest-growing large city in US -- is broke. My hunch was correct!! It's the actual cost of car sprawl coming due. What's funny is, since the report was written by a right-wing/pro-sprawl org, they focus on "pension reform."

One of the funniest things about a certain class of (generally) men who think you can’t do construction without a giant truck is … Urban job sites have epic site staging challenges & often *require* workers to carpool or take transit. I see hardhats on BART all the time.

“Don’t feed the trolls” has always been great advice but sometimes it’s funny to get in the mud a little

Guys will see this and just think "hell yeah"
