My new book has just arrived! “Seeing the mind” is a journey through the history of cognitive neuroscience, brain imaging and neuronal recordings. It features one hundred of the most beautiful images of the brain and a short text explaining why they matter and what they mean.

Happy birthday to renowned neuropsychologist Brenda Milner, who is celebrating her 106th birthday today! 🎈 🎁 While she may not count her age among her many achievements, in this video she did share a few thoughts (and a bit of folklore) about birthdays past and present.

What a great learning and inspiring experience to see all the wonderful work being done by educational neuroscientists @IMBESoc #imbes2024 in beautiful Leuven, Belgium. And what a great honor to see @StanDehaene present his work and get his autograph on my favorite cog sci 📖

Maybe my favorite course evaluation to date: "This is the only course from which I came home almost every time having something exciting to discuss with my dad. The learning paved the way for intellectually rich conversations outside the learning environment." 💜 neuroscience

You all know I rock hard with @nyulangone It’s where I received my training in the @Froemkelab It’s where I had PROTECTED space to challenge myself & SUPPORT when I failed to reach expectations. All necessary steps in science…🧵1/3

We have set up a fund for Sarah DuBrow's daughter, Eve, for any immediate needs and for a 529 plan for her college education. gofund.me/dcf9eef0

Sarah DuBrow was an amazing friend and colleague, and many of us are devastated by her passing. Her time with us was too short. Please consider donating to this fund in Sarah's memory, to support her daughter.

My daughter channeling her inner Leo after thoroughly enjoying a typical NY winter weekend with 2 seasons: You fools thought winter was over? 🤣

Pursuing an academic career when you come from no family wealth = living w major delays in life milestones & chronic stress from financial instability (for self & family) for nearly a decade. Structural barriers exist at every step of the process. 1/3 @AcademicChatter @PhDVoice

If you see me give a talk about my lab’s research, all animated and without using any notes, you might think I have a natural knack and love for public speaking. I *do*, but it wasn’t always that way. 🧵

Ugh. Women have been half our PhD program for years. They should be accounting for half the papers published in these journals. How is it only 1/3? Is the pipeline for postdocs already so leaky? Or are women's papers not being accepted to these journals at same rate?

Estimated authorship in broad-scope neuroscience journals: 55.3% Male-first-author/Male-last-author; 10.2% Male-first author/Female-last-author; 26.2% Female-first-author/Male-last-author; and 8.3% Female-first-author/Female-last-author. (Dworkin et al, 2020)

When it's your last lecture of the semester and one of your students says: You were my first black professor in a science course which was inspiring and meaningful to me!" Me: "😭" This is a reminder of why I teach. And how much work is left to do to. #RepresentationMatters

I was extremely nervous to go back to work while caring for an infant, but have been floored by how my colleagues @nyuniversity have gone out of their ways to accommodate my safety concerns, schedule, and lactation needs. It’s nice when motherhood is recognized in the work place!

First time teaching Cog Neuro, and I had the students make a meme as part of their last assignment. Thread below of my favorite gems. Starting with chickens (love them, I have 4!)

I could not cover my SfN hotel with my credit card during grad school. Grateful that people I roomed with were better at money management than me, but having to incur a charge that big should not be the expectation.

I’ve asked my 3rd year illustration students at @sva to come up with a post-pandemic New Yorker magazine cover. Here is what they sent in:

In my last lecture which happened to be on AI, I asked my students what they think AI needs, to operate like a human brain and they came up with this awesome list. It was also a good way to see what concepts about learning they acquired in the course and I’m pretty proud #AI #ed
