I started work at @cursor_ai this week. Holy moly these guys move! So much to do and so many ideas to chase down. More thoughts later, time to build

To mark #AWS Lambda's 10th anniversary, I'm sharing the internal PR/FAQ doc that launched it. It's a rare glimpse into the customer challenges we observed at the time and our vision for serverless computing back in the 2010s. Read it here: allthingsdistributed.com/2024/11/aws-la…

the most content people I know keep talking about how you can mold reality based on your thoughts, the most unhappy say there isn’t much they can do about their circumstances go figure

In the more architectural sense, I’d say yes. But when you use them at the function level they’re awesome. Personally, I see huge productivity gains. I’d guess somewhere genuinely in the region of 2-5x. There is a skill in knowing what is and isn’t an LLM problem.

LLMs are still midwit coders as far as I can tell today

It's honestly quite wild and impressive how the CNCF community is organised. It would be hard to bet against the work they do. It's like community of practices that operate at global (not inter-company) scale.

Development containers are awesome, especially when you can swap the hardware running your environment without changing a single thing. Apparently, I've been living under a rock because I didn't know about this. I recorded a 3-min video to show you Gitpod Flex running on my…

Someone converted our HackerNews thread / blog post into a podcast. Maybe @safeserver ? It's clear that it's AI, but the quality is exceptional. I'm really quite blown away by how well this works. podcast.safeserver.de/@deepdive/epis…

You're deploying Kubernetes in production so your development environment infrastructure should also be Kubernetes? Right? Well, not necessarily...

We are no longer using Kubernetes to build Gitpod. "Kubernetes is the obvious choice building automated and standardized development environments" is something I believed for a long time. Six years later we know better: gitpod.io/blog/we-are-le… With this move we become more…

One thing I'm personally loving these days is having access to any size environment (including GPU). Devcontainer has some really nice utilities for getting cuda and other required tools installed.

This is a good question from @GiftedLane ! Some starting points in the replies. Gitpod Flex is free and you can deploy a cloud runner in (genuinely) 3 minutes. I was honestly very stunned when I spun it up myself at how simple it is.

👀 nice! I need to set aside some time and start checking it out 😄 Any suggestions on how to get started with GitPod Flex? (🤗 thanks for the replies, much appreciated)
