1/ Can Large Language Models (LLMs) truly reason? Or are they just sophisticated pattern matchers? In our latest preprint, we explore this key question through a large-scale study of both open-source like Llama, Phi, Gemma, and Mistral and leading closed models, including the…
A similar situation happened recently - LexisNexis & Thomson Reuters (parent co of Westlaw) have both released AI products to be used by actual lawyers. Stanford researchers (incl. Dan Ho, @chrmanning ) found that the tech was disastrously inappropriate: hai.stanford.edu/news/ai-trial-…
Thank you to everyone who brought this article to our attention. We agree that customers should not have to pay for unauthorized requests that they did not initiate. We’ll have more to share on exactly how we’ll help prevent these charges shortly. #AWS #S3 How an empty S3…
ChatGPT is incredibly limited, but good enough at some things to create a misleading impression of greatness. it's a mistake to be relying on it for anything important right now. it’s a preview of progress; we have lots of work to do on robustness and truthfulness.
Today, the fundamentals haven't changed compared to 2016. It's still big curves fitted with gradient decent. So far no one's job has been automated by the shiny demos that were about to change *everything*.
I promise it’s a good one!

I think that some advice is truly worse than others. The bad advice is fully general like always "Always add more tests" or "Be more Agile" while good advice is contingent on the specific problems at hand. earthly.dev/blog/thought-l…
The entire history of software engineering is one of rising levels of abstraction.
trying to write some natural language inputs and letting AI turn it into code reminded me of this:
Here’s one of my guiding principles for writing clean code: Don’t use any new/exotic/fancy language feature just because you can. Future developers will generally hate you for your cleverness and revile you for your choice of compressed, deep semantics over simplicity.
We believe users should have the choice over the data that is being collected about them and how it’s used. Facebook can continue to track users across apps and websites as before, App Tracking Transparency in iOS 14 will just require that they ask for your permission first.
