It’s because kids are more dysregulated than ever before that this is horrible advice. There is a sub shortage in every state. When there are no subs, in-building staff have to cover, which means loss of plan, lunch, or other duties (that will still need to get completed).
This puts a greater burden on your teammates, who will also burn out faster. But the greatest burden is put on those dysregulated students. Those most impacted by trauma, whether Covid, racism, homophobia, abuse, neglect, food insecurity, etc., will bear the burden instead.
